Schick Extreme 3 vs Gillette Fusion
« on: December 14, 2008, 11:48:02 PM »
Up until recently, I've used the Extreme 3 for years now--been shaving my head for about 12 years now.  Recently, I've heard talk about the Gillette Fusion.  (I am a proper Bostonian in exile in North Idaho).  So, my question is this:  Have any of you guys tried both types of razors? and which one do you prefer and why?

I have used both and I like the Fusion. I just think it gives me a better shave and I go 2 weeks on 1 blade. I could probably go longer than 2 weeks but don't like to be greedy when it comes to my head, that's why you will never hear me complain about the price of the blades. If I could get away with paying 12 bucks every 2 months for gas I would be a happy camper, so why complain about paying 12 bucks every 2 months for a healthy cut free noggin..... O0

Seeing how I only have one head shaving under my belt.... I found the 3 bladed HB not doing the trick, so I did my first with the vibrator Fusion (what I use on my face) and it worked really well.

Boots, I know there are a lot of us that are really into HB, I got one in preparation to do the deed, but having used it a couple of times, I've stuck w/ the power Fusion for 15 months and never a slice, never a day I couldn't shave because of damage caused by shaving.  For me, to paraphrase the words of "Moses" they're going to have to "pry my Fusion out my cold dead hands!"  Fusion forever, until there's a better one--I'm always hoping for even better.  Ain't smooth a great way to live and be free?

I'm pretty sure the Fusion for most guys is the handled razor of choice.  Seems to be a safe bet on all fronts.  More expensive maybe and I've never been able tell the difference between the manual & power versions, but still good.

Though I wouldn't mind seeing the flexi blade design taken up by Gillette or Headblade that the Extreme 3 uses.

Honestly, I'm a Headblader, but I've used both the Xtreme 3 and the Fusion on my head, and I like them both. Something about the Xtreme 3 is just so nice, I think it's the way the blade curves to the contours of my head. The Fusion power is nice, my razor of choice on my face, but it takes a really long time to get a smooth shave on my head with it. Basically, I love Headblade with the Sensor Excel blades on my head, but the Xtreme 3 would be a nice second choice for me.

My sister actually got me a headblade for my birthday today.  I'm confused- what types of blades can be used with the headblade??  I assumed you had to use headblade blades.  Any clarification would be appreciated.

You can use Headblades blades, Gillette Atra (or generic equivalent), or Gillette Sensor Excel blades. The sensor blades use a different adapter. If your HB didn't come with the Sensor adapter, I would recommend getting some and trying it out, I think they're the best blades out there.

Here is a link to the Sensor adapters, so you can see if your HB came with one. I think mine did, but that was 2 years ago, so I don't know if they still ship with them or not.

Happy birthday.  I hope you're planning to put your sister's present to good use in the very near future.   ;)

I'm with you on the Cam.  With my few Fusion experiences, it seems to take a longer time to get my head smooth.  Maybe it's the random ridges on my head that don't allow for the close shave, but I always seem to go back to the Mach 3.  Mach 3 Turbo, if I can afford it :)

After comparing the price of the replacement blades, I decided to go back to the Mach 3.  I was using it a number of years ago, and can't remember why I stopped.  It turns out that I had a bunch of replacement blades in a bottom drawer, but I must have tossed the handle for some reason.  Ultimately, I bought another handle, and resumed using the Mach 3 the other day.
