• Thanks again for all the welcomes. I'm definitely up for trying it again AND giving it a few days. At least 10, ideally 30 and see what happens next. I'm wondering if I should go to the barber the first time and then do it myself? the one time I did it and it took me hours and hours. I need to get better at it and have some pointers.

  It really shouldn't take hours and hours if you have a decent set of clippers and a good razor.  If you don't have clippers and are planning to keep your head shaved, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to invest in a set for one-time use.
  
  If you do decide to do it yourself, take the guard of the clippers and buzz off all of your hair as close as you can get it.  Then take a nice long soak in the shower to soften up the hair before you lather up and shave.  Not all barbers will do razor headshaves but any barber will at least take you down to the skin with the clippers.  Even if they do shave you with a razor, you'll probably want to go over it yourself at home, because you can usually get a closer shave than what most barbers give.
  
  Why not get a little jump on the holidays and shave now?  Once the idea gets into your head, it's impossible to get it out until you're sporting a smooth dome.  Your avatar photo looks really good, and frankly, it's a shame to cover up that fine looking dome with hair.

  Personally I dig the whole scene of going into a barbershop with hair and asking the dude to clean me up and shave my head bald..hasn't happened in years..but it was cool way back when..
  
  cool experience and even better if you have an audience..
  
  go for the barbershop headshave straight up..
  
  especially in L.A..you can find a lot of shops that will shave your head smooth bro..

• I went through a phase about 4 or 5 years ago where I wasn't shaving every day, especially if I was running late in the morning.  On days like that I'd usually see dozens of guys on the street and in the elevators at work, with gleaming domes and end up berating myself for leaving the house with stubble on my dome.  I found a barbershop near my office that had about 6 or 7 barbers on duty at any given time.  There was one that gave great headshaves.  He'd shave with the grain with a straight razor and then go back and shave against the grain.  He's the only barber that I ever went to that got my dome as smooth as I got it myself.  Ironically, this barber was completely MPB and wore a  three-strand combover.   
  
  The shop closed down and I haven't had my head shaved by a barber since.  One day after it closed down, and I'd left the house withoug shaving my head, I ended up buying a can of shaving gel and a razor and shaved it myself in the men's room. Did that a few times.  I recently came across the can of gel in my bottom desk drawer.  It had been so long since I used it, I forgot it was even there.

  Sounds to me like you like being shaved, so just go for it. Keep it smooth for the thirty days like suggested. It will give you a chance to get used to shaving, and also to get comfortable being slick each day. Guarantee you will love it.
