Thank You
« on: January 14, 2009, 09:19:47 AM »
Hello there, my name is Omar from the UK, and i'm 21. I've been dealing with strands on my head falling down  :px, and combined with many other mental blocks it spiraled me down into a deep hole of depression. I would go through moments of complete despair, not understanding myself, not finding happiness when the sun would shine.. just very down in the slums, for the best part of 5 months. I lost a lot of connections with my dearest friends as a result, people who I absolutely adored, started punishing myself deeply and would walk around with a weight that felt so heavy on my soul.

It would baffle me as to why such a trivial thing would play such a negative role in my psychology, but what turned everything around... was this site. This site oozes positive energy, it's absolutely brilliant, and there are many other sites out there whilst lurking around that would sap your energy even further. But there's something very special about this place, and the people that keep it afloat and going. Since lurking through here for the past month, it has helped me gain a new found perspective and philosophy in life, to always be thankful for what you have, spread positive vibes and live on the bright side. Life throws so many battles your way, and you look across the world to find that half the population scrape survival... and children bleed. Basic needs can have great satisfaction.

Our bodies merely act as the coating for inner energy, and once you fix what's going on inside, gain perspective.. that positivity floats outwards through your pores and it glows with a shine.

Thank you for helping me greatly in revitalizing myself, the weight has been lifted by whom I would consider to be my sly bald brothers... I wouldn't consider it being any other way, you guys are TOP NOTCH... and I shall be on here too to help the support going,

p.s. I've already buzzed my head down to a 0, when I go sly I shall post a pic up

Much peace and love  O0

I can relate. I just found this site and joined yesterday, it seems like a great place. I have been thinning and receding for almost 2 years, I am about to turn 23. I have gone through a lot of ups and downs in that time, mostly downs, and it has been very hard. On new years day I buzzed my head with clippers with no gaurd. Yesterday I shaved my head with my norelco razor. Once it grows out a little I am going to go the next step and shave it with my mach 3. It is so liberating to have my head shaved and has already changed my life for the better.

Welcome to the site Omar! I imagine most of us can understand how much power bad hair had over us prior to being sly. I wasn't  as young as you when it became an issue but it did become an issue nevertheless and I can personally relate how profoundly it can hinder a person's personality, growth and confidence.

I'm 40 years old and have had what I consider to be bad hair for at least a decade. I wish to God I had done this sooner but am also thankful for the gift of confidence at 40 years old when I was so sure my best "looking" days were behind me. I was fighting a losing battle and all it took was a razor to end the war.

What I'm saying is, another positive spin you can put on your epiphany is that you're only 21 and will not waste the next 10+ years living under a rock. You're a free man now and from the sound of it, lovin life. Good for you man, I share your enthusiasm!

Welcome to the Forum Omar!

What an outstanding introduction. You are not alone in your feelings..... many here have had the same feelings about their disappearing hair. Good for you for taking charge of your life and getting back TO life.

A little hair is not worth all that pain.

Welcome Omar. That was a superb and inspiring opening post. I am sure the brothers join me in wishing you well and we all look forward to you posting a pic once you have "done the deed".

hey Omar,  welcome bro.
I have ben going through hair thinning for 4 years now & I thought life would end once I shaved my head.
I know now I look at it as ok what on earth gave me that stupid idea but that's how I felt.   When I came
across this site as a lurker I was so surprised.  Guys here are taking a shaved head like nothing to be afraid of.
Not only that but as you can see from the pictures the guys here look great, so I thought hey I want to be like them.
I have shaved my head for 4 months and have not been happier.   Without this site I would probably never think of shaving my head for 5 to 6 more years or so.

Omar and Brian, welcome to Sly Bald Guys!! It's testimonies like this that are the reason I still read the board everyday.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.
