By way of introduction, I thought I'd tell my little story:
The way to going 'Sly' was a long and winding road for me. I first started noticing my hair falling out when I was around 17 or 18. As many do, I stayed in denial until I was around 25 or so. I still had a good deal of hair then, but I had a 'tuft' where my front hairline used to be. I was told that it made me look 'distinguished', which worked for a while. I started to wear hats (which made my scalp itch) but lived with it since it was better than getting sunburn.
Along about 32, I decided to go the rug route (OK, you can all say it now BLECH!). It was expensive, looked like it was my hair, and stayed in place even when swimming in the ocean. It was everything they said, especially the expensive part. The first day that I wore it to work I told my boss that it was the most expensive hat I owned. It was also VERY uncomfortable. To wear the dang thing, I had to shave the very top of my head so that it would stick. It felt like having one of those plastic costume hats pasted to my head. I also felt weird when visiting friends or relatives over night. It just seemed so un-natural. I also felt like that it just wasn't me.
One day when I was washing it, I just thought how ridiculous it was and how much of a pain it was for the upkeep. So I put it in a shoebox (where it still resides) and put it on a closet shelf. I take it out every once in a while to remind me that I don't need hair.
When I first went to the barber he suggested that I just cut the rest of it short (I think he used a 3 or 4 blade) which I did and it was ok, but.... After a year of that I tried it with a 0 blade, and loved it! After a few months, I had him use a straight edge and have loved having a slicked head ever since.
I've tried many things over the years, but have posted what works best for me in the 'Head Shaving/Your Shave Routine' forum.
I hope someone finds it useful.
I stumbled on this site today, and have found some very useful information. Thanks to all who have posted.
