Via Yahoo's MMA news this morning, I just read what some will consider a shocker:
UFC star Anderson "Spider" Silva has announced he will retire within 1 year. Possibly to have a shot at boxing?
Wanted to get you MMA fans' thoughts on 2 fights - Who will win these? (and why?)
1) Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson vs. Ken Shamrock
2) Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar
Finally, I see alot of mentions about how hot Gina Carano is, but there's another hottie female MMA competitor, too - Carina Damm -

Couture over Lesnar. And shamrock over Slice....unless its fixed. Slice almost lost to some tomatoe can a few months ago....unless shamrock has aged a lot since his last fight he should have an easy time.

Being a longtime UFC fan myself, I really WANT to see Ken win, and regain a little bit of his credibility. But man...he was just brutally KO'ed by Robert "Buzz" Berry (for those of you saying "Who?" - exactly my point)...and is on a long losing streak. I just can't bet against Kimbo in this one. Kimbo by early KO.
I'm going to go with Randy over Brock, but I think Brock's going to bring it to Randy HARD. Brock has an outside chance of scoring the KO, but I'm going to say - Randy by decision, but both men put on a great show.

You are right on the money Horse, Kimbo's camp has been very smart in his promotions so far. He has fought some guys with names to bring in fans, but not guys who threaten to beat him. Ken is going to get his career ended badly! Randy needs to be in his best mental shape for the Brock fight, lets face it that guy is crazy strong, and he is going to try and kill randy for sure! Randy needs to stay of his back and wear the big monster down, it will be great! (or over in the blink of an eye!)

The last prime time event,, "Saturday night fights" or what ever it was called was horrible,, the whole MTV flash and glamor did nothing to help MMA if you ask me. I fell asleep before the Kimbo fight. I hope they keep this one more of a fight and less of a "show"

I do think Brok's gonna win it over Randy...but nothing but love for Randy and what he's helped MMA become.
..and THier, I'm with you on the 'show' aspect. Unfortunately, like in boxing, MMA is split into 2 schools. Lovers of the art and sport of MMA and lovers of shock and violence who are just as happy watching a street brawl or you tube video of idiots fighting.
Talking about boxing, Silva is a gifted MMA fighter, but think he'd have a tough time in boxing. If he went down to Light heavyweight, he'd have to deal with the likes of Calzhage. He'd have a shot at cruiserweight if he went up, but not sure what he'd look like at 205. We'll see...

Wholeheartedly agree, my friend. MMA and boxing are 2 different disciplines altogether, and should stay that way! There are some talented strikers in MMA, but I don't think any of them would fare well in a ring where they are ONLY allowed to strike, against men who have specialized in that one discipline for a good part of their lives.
The opposite is also true : A good striker always stands a chance in a MMA bout, but put him in with someone with decent defense against strikes, and strong grappling/bjj skills, and that bout's over quickly and painfully for the striker.

Remember MMA fighters are still training with some of the best boxing and kickboxing coaches in the world! Take away all the other stuff they are dealing with, and just train boxing, and you have guys that are every bit as good in that sport! We have boxers train with us all the time, and most of the more well rounded MMA guys have no problem standing with them, but if there is a clinch or any type of groung battle it is over, like Horse said! Silva would have to find the right weight and he would do well, if he put all of his training into boxing.

No doubt...that's why I love MMA. Multi-disciplined, talented athletes.

While were on the topic of MMA...I too saw the Kimbo's last fight on free tv...he did almost get beat but the one fight that stuck out in my mind was the women. Gina carrano beat the hell out of that other girl...
and honestly guys..is there a hotter woman on the planet that can kick your ass ?

Speaking of Gina Carano - I just read the other day on yahoo MMA forums that she wants to be known as a fighter first, and not as a sex symbol or the face of women's MMA - and then I see "beefcake" shots like the ones DJ_Bald posted and find myself thinking "If you don't want to be a sex symbol, why do you pose for shots like that?!"

Well guys, We'll know Saturday whether it'll be Kimbo or Ken-bo
