The Thanksgiving Debate

OK, every year my family seems to have what I call the "Thanksgiving Debate", which we just had and that's why I am bringing it up. The debate consists of 2 things:
#1. Where are we going to go?
#2. What are we having?
I know a lot of families have Thanksgiving in the same place year after year but in my family it's always up for debate.
Also we have the debate on whether we are going to have Turkey or Ham. I myself always want ham because I can't stand turkey. This year my daughter said she was going to host Thanksgiving and she was having both Turkey and Ham...

So how about you guys and gals? Do you have the big debate every year? Where do you go and what do you prefer for the big Thanksgiving feast?

We dread planning for the holidays around here. My wife's parents are divorced, so instead of having just two families to satisfy with visits, we have three. And of coarse there is ALWAYS a few of them that aren't happy with what days they get, or think they didn't get as much time with us. Two years ago Christmas we said screw it all, and went on a cruise on our own.

We always rotate year to year what side of the family we go to for both Christmas and Thanksgiving. This year is supposed to be Thanksgiving with my in-laws, but we may actually be hosting and having all the family at our house. This is one of those good news/bad news scenarios. Good news is we wouldn't have to travel. Bad new is that we have all the relatives at our house.

Home and turkey. No questions. No debate. Except who to invite.

Thanksgiving always ends up creating a big debate. My wife and I both have large families, and both have families that slack off on the hosting. Last year we hosted both Thanksgiving and Xmas and it was alot of work. We had 27 people for xmas dinner.

Well....we've been married for 13 years next week.....and we've hosted Thanksgiving for the last 12 years at our home. No debate. We usually have about 21-22 mouths to feed. Always turkey for Thanksgiving.
My wife and I just spoke over the weekend about NOT having Thanksgiving this year. It's a tremendous amount of work, time, and money to do it. We've actually talked about packing up the camper and the smoker.Hitting the campground for the long weekend, and smoking a turkey.
We'll see............

We try to involve both families at either Thanksgiving or RamaHanuKwanzMas / Winter Solstice Non-Secular Celebration Season (aka "
Christmas" in the House of Schro). Some years it's hard to accomplish that, since our relatives are spread out all over the US.
This Christmas (I can say that, since it applies to me), we're hosting the family, so Team Schro is a free agent this Thanksgiving ... anyone got 4 spots open?

We always have it here and we invite all the family. It seems that the parents swap years so we get them this year because they were at my brothers place last year.
For food, I kinda talked about it under the pet thread. We only eat what we raise or hunt as far as meat goes. We have raised turkeys before but they are messy and gain too fast. We have lots and lots of extra peafowl and pheasants this year that we didnt sell so we fattened them up on high protien feed and lots of sweet feed. It looks like we will be butchering 2 peafowl and about 4-5 pheasants for thanksgiving. They are dark meat but the peafowl are about turkey size and the sweet feed gives the meat a sweet taste when its plain.
