barbershop headshave - page 1 -

• Im off for a couple of days and I think  Im going to reward myself with a barbershop headshave.  My barber cant get me as slick as I can but getting skinned against the grain up in the chair is a great experience.  Any others go in regularly for a barber headshave?

• I think a barbershop shave is a great experience...if you have a barber that's into it..
  
  best ones in So Cal..usually the younger hispanic barbers..
  
  I got a great dude that said headshaves were "his specialty"..

• I go for one about 1-2 times a month. My barber takes his time and does a great job. When I get in the chair, he doesn't even ask how to cut it. Just gets a towel and runs it under some really hot water while lathering the dome. Then lets the towel sit on there to soften things up. Another round of lather and he hits it with the straight edge. Finishes it with a splash of Bay Rum or CLubman and I'm good to go.
  Very cool to see the dudes waiting in the chairs look in amazement. One guy said he was going to go for it once.

• The do-it-yourself Head shaving kits.(any razor you can buy), are nothing compared to a good old fashioned straight razor shave.....The barber should know what hes doing, take his time, and now a days probably cost more than a haircut, because it should take longer to do, but the pampering is worth it.

• I love the experience of the barbershop headshave - the hot towels, the hot lather, the scrape of a straight razor. It's definitely a manly way to pamper yourself. Once, when I'd been sporting hair for a few months, it was really fun to sit down with a full head of hair and say "shave me bald!" A really cool experience.
  
  BUT - I have never had a barber who got my head as smooth as I do. And I've had some really conscientious barbers who've gone over the whole dome 2-3 times. Still not as slick as me and my Mach 3.

• I'm going to have to try that.  There's a couple of barbers in town that do it.  I just never seem to take the time.

• I have not found a barber here in in my area that will give a straight razor shave.  They all state that for insurance reasons they can't do it................Any insurance people out there that can verify this!

• There use to be a barberette here in Vegas who specialized in head shaving. I'd lived here for three years before I heard about her and I use to go in every two or three months for a shave. She used hot lather but she didn't use a straight razor. She used two different types of razors to shave you; the first one she used for the initial shave was a single edged blade like you use in a window scraper and the second razor she used to clean up any areas she missed was an injector blade like the old Wilkenson Sword razors. She'd finish up by brushing you off and a splash of Bay Rum. The last time I went there, she had run out of shaving cream so she used the old Mug 'n Brush method of lathering me up. The next time I called for an appointment the phone was disconnected so I guess she left town.
  
  I've heard that Trufitt & Hill in the Forum Shops at Caesars and The Art of Shaving have barbers who give straight razor shaves, but they cost around $100.00. Just a little too pricey for me.

  Man I've spent the better part of three years in 2 month increments over a 5 year period in Vegas on Business....What do you do down there?
