Do you say *I love you mum and dad* to your parents/kids ?
« on: July 28, 2008, 10:04:23 PM »
This is something I have been thinking quite a lot on from time to time. Is it ordinary among your and your friends families that you say once in a while that you love your parents/kids or is it something I hear mostly on TV ?

I can't recognize that I ever said this or that I got any tells from my mum or dad.

I can still be the one, Im dreaming about and I dont need my hair to become him!

I talk to my parents frequently and I always tell them that I love them.  My wife and kids......ALL THE TIME!

My mother-in-law, well......I'll just leave that alone.

My Mum has only ever said it a couple of times... my Dad never.

I say it to my kids every day.. I think it's important that you tell your children that you love them.
Even when one of them is upset with me and tell me that they hate me, I normally respond with
"Well, I love you"

My daughter always wants it to be the last thing she hears whenever she goes somewhere or
speaks to me on the phone, for the simple reason that if something were to happen to one of us,
that would be the last thing either of us remembered as saying to each other.  :)

Every single day to the wife and kids. My Mom very often. With Dad it's more of a non-verbal thing........ like a quick hug or pat on the back. Dad is pretty old school.

I think one of the hardest things for a man to do is tell a grown son that he loves him. My oldest son is 23 and it used to be a little uncomfortable for both of us from the time he was about 17 to about 21........ But then he or I or both of us changed a bit and we express it freely now.

I say it to my folks and the rest of the family all of the time.   While I am very sure my parents love me, they don't say it often.  It is a generational thing, like the guy hug.    You would never have seen that years ago but today it is pretty common.

My parents never really said it much to me and they're gone now. I tell my g/f and the kids I love them everyday. And they tell me everyday. I am a firm believer that love is truely expressed through actions and that my children truely know that I love them by my actions but I still tell them everyday.

Absolutely... I always think that, heaven forbid something happens to parents/kids, and you never see them again, and then regretting forever that you didn't let them know how you feel.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

Ever since my best friend from college almost died from a fluke accident I've told my parents and my wife I love them every time I talk to them on the phone or I leave them.  My wife I say I love you to every day.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.
