I may have found a new routine
« on: June 08, 2008, 01:33:41 PM »
I got out my Headblade today for the first time in a very long time. I've  never been a big HB fan -- it always shaved the back of my head smoother than anything else, but also caused me some irritation, and it's just too difficult to use on the sides of the head, around the ears, etc.

Today I saw a Youtube video of someone shaving with a Headblade and he shaved the sides of his head with horizontal strokes.  I've always done it vertically and suddenly thought maybe that's what I've been doing wrong.  So I decided to give it another try.

I was totally dissatisfied with the way the sides turned out and there were a few spots I missed on the top of my head.  That's another complaint I've had with Headblade -- I find it more difficult to go over stubborn spots several times to get them smooth.   So I kind of gave up on the idea.  I applied some more Headslick and then shaved my entire head again with the Mach III.   I was done with the Mach III in a matter of seconds, since most of the hair was already gone.

I think this has got to be the best shave I've ever gotten.  My head is so smooth, it feels like there was never any hair on it.  And as a bonus, I didn't get the razorburn I usually get with the Headblade.  I'm going to try this two-razor approach again tomorrow and see if the results are as good.

The results sound great, but I don't know about the shaving twice part.

It's not as bad as it sounds.  It took less than a minute to do.

It's the multiple shaves that do this I think.  If anybody knows where it is there was a bit on the forum about a "perfect" shave but only for the beard a week or two ago, the guy shaved, then shaved again w/ conditioner and hot towels etc.  Actually I think he did it three times!  I decided to try, but only twice, and put some conditioner on after the first shave then a hot, steamy hand towel for about 5 minutes, the headslick, baby oil, etc. just like usual and shaved again.
RESULT: the smoothest long lasting shave ever.  Granted it takes a little longer but the second goes faster.  I do this on Saturdays and when I have the extra time, it is so worth it.

I shave twice each morning and it is normal routine.I use the Bic Sensor 3 once each way and then do it again to get to the missed spots i find with my hand. I like the headblade razor design but admit i just don't receive a good shave with it.Therefore,my headblade razor will be put to other uses soon.In fact,i will be starting a new thread with handlebar's headblade soon.
Stay tuned.

Until recently I always used the 2 razor shave approach. Go over once with HB Classic and do touch ups with the Fusion. I also always had trouble with the sides of the head and around the ears.

I find myself using the Fusion pretty much exclusively now.

My routine is a duplicate of yours Razor, except that I also rinse the blade and then dip the blade (HB and Mach) in alcohol before taking the next pass.   I too have found a smoother, longer lasting shave than any other way I have tried.

I tried the shaving twice thing this morning. I ended up cutting my dome for the first time in months.  Probably just trying to hurry a bit too much.  Can't tell a whole lot of difference.

The whole process took me four minutes this morning.  30 seconds to lather up with Headslick, and 2 minutes to shave with the Headblade.  Another minute and a half to rinse, relather, and shave with the Mach III.  It actually took less time, because before I was going over the same stubborn spots over and over with the Mach III. This time I went over each spot once only with each razor.  It seems like the blades complement each other -- one makes up for the other's shortcomings.  I'm going to try it for a while and see how things go.

Every head is different.  I'm a fanatic about being perfectly smooth but if I do too many vertical strokes on the sides, I'll be raw for days.  ;)

Sounds like you're getting your shave dialed in.  O0

I never even got as far as the Mach III this morning.  As I was going over my scalp with the Headblade one last time, my hand slipped or something and tore a chunk out of my crown.  This is the worst nick/cut I have ever had in the almost five years that I've been shaving my head.  Unbelievable that such a large amount of blood can come from such a small cut.  I can't get the damn thing to stop bleeding.  Every time I pull the tissue off, it opens up the wound again. I can't even leave for work until I can get it under control.  Can't go out in public with a piece of tissue sticking to my head.  This may be the last time I use the Headblade.  :(

RazorX...I saw the same video I think, and have been using the horizontal strokes on the sides of my heads. Smooth as can be!

Ouch that hurt.   :(
Not a big fan of the headblade myself. Put that deadly weapon away.
