The daily ritual
« on: May 16, 2008, 07:47:42 PM »
OK, I know there are several posts about how to shave and which razors work best, but here is my issue.  I shave everyday (preferably in the morning), and from those who read my previous posts, you know I am trying all sorts of brands of razors to gels since going the way of sly.  So I start with HeadBlade and Headslick, and I get a decent shave, but notice mostly from the back of my head, I still feel stubble.  So I then move to Aveeno Positvely Smooth gel or Bald Guyz Ultimate gel and my fusion razor.  But I am finding myself shaving all over again.

Am I doing this whole thing wrong or what?  I am going against the grain at all times, but I just seem to shave for like 20 minutes on average and I seem to keep going over certain areas over and over.  Mind you these are fairly new blades.  is that normal?

darkknight:  1st of all..U can't rush yourself into becoming an expert on headshaving.  it took me about 20-25 minutes 2 headshave when i 1st tried shaving my own noggin'.  it takes time.  just keep at it... and U will find a routine that suits U.  although i've been a headshaver for only a year... i learn or pick up a new routine all the time.  matter of fact...last month i read a post on the shave secret oil & tried it and included it in my routine.  a few weeks ago... i discovered the alcohol spray and also included it in my routine.  just B patient and continue 2 have that desire on the PERFECT SHAVE.  it's just like life... U learn something new everyday. so... i say continue 2 experiment with different products and eventually U will discover a routine that keeps your noggin' smoooooth. O0

OK here is what I have concluded on.  People say they shave against the grain....so...which way is the grain?  Does that mean shaving from teh front...straight back and shaving from the back of the neck straight up to the top and then from the back of the neck forward up over the ears and in front of the ears going up to the top of the noggin?  Well I think that is what most people think, that your hair grows in those directions...well, I dont think it does.  You have to find which way yoru hair is growing and then go against that.  For me I do the front to the top...back of neck to teh top and up and over the ears...but....right at the base of my noggin near my neck...I have to go from the middle horizontally to the ear..but only on my right side.  Why my hair grows in taht direction who knows....because you sure couldnt tell that when I had hair. So you might have to say hey..ok...i still have stubble there..but feel it and find out which way would be against the grain.  Try that and see if it works...

Actually it is a bit easier than normal ears.  Plus I  can always remove the cowl behind closed doors and get a full 360 view to make sure I am sly 24/7!
