Hello, thinking of going to las vegas in december for my birthday, Never being there, is there any things i might need to know, ie were to stay, eat etc. Any of you guys out there i could visit.

Vegas is nothing like the movies. There are not hot cocktail waitresses who bring you free drinks if you are killing it at a table. You are guaranteed to lose your money,get ripped off in one way or another.

If you want to come to the USA for a holiday I would recommend somewhere else other than NYC ,LA or Vegas, which is it where it seems all European and Australian tourists chose to go when they come over. Try seeing Real America like the Pacific Northwest,The Rockies,The Deep South or Texas.

  Dont visit those big cities....if you really want to see what America is all about...visit the rural areas....thats where you see the real USA

And do what, exactly once you get there?  Count the cows?

people from New Jersey are just perpetually cynical. One of the greatest things about being from New Jersey is never having to apologize for anything.

Well where I live in "cow country" you could go just down the road and visit Gettyburg to learn some real American History.

Or visit Luray Caverns just a few hours away and see the Blue Ridge Mountains while at it.

Etc., Etc., Etc.....

Hey Mike, we went to the Luray Caverns a couple of months ago. Loved the Shenandoah Valley! Although, Virgina Wines...... . I don't know if it was the soil or that particular winery, but man....It was a little winery outside of Basye (did have some great North Carolina Syrahs though  ). . Took in a demonstration by the North/South Skirmish Association, went through Winchester (loved the Court House Museum), awesome area.

I felt like letting some of the locals in on a little secret ...... the Civil War is over!  Or, as some called it, The War of the Northern Aggression.

Looks like Rodger already beat me to answering that question.  Not sure if the real Jersey shore can actually live up to the glowing description he gave, but it can be a fun place to visit.

I would actually like to visit Gettysburg sometime and the Luray Caverns would also be worth seeing.  But I'm just trying to look at this from the point of view of someone in another country who wants to visit the US for a two-week stay.  There's not enough there to keep you occupied for an entire vacation, so you do get more bang for your buck (or quid) by visiting the major tourist attractions.  If I lived in the UK and was planning to visit the US for the first time, I'd be thinking of visiting Washington, New York, perhaps Disney World, perhaps Vegas.  As a history buff, I'd probably also want to see Philadelphia, the birthplace of the nation.  It would never cross my mind to visit the midwest and see the heartland.
