Hey everyone. I've been lurking for a couple days since I discovered the existence of such like minded individuals

. I'm 24. MPB has been setting in since around 22. My dad, who is 58, has it as well, so I know I get it from him but his mentality approaching it is completely different then mine. He's stuck on using Minoxidil and letting it "grow out" and basically trying to fight it. Me? I don't think like that. In my opinion, the thousands of dollars he's gonna spend over the years on all that sh*t (that the industry nicely gouges him with, after all there's a price on your head, literally), I figure I could either throw into some stocks or buy a pimped out Macbook Pro in the future or some sh*t. I'm just not vain enough to spend that much money on something you need to be CONTINUALLY buying and whose effectiveness isn't even 100%.
Anyway, been looking into buying a headblade. I like how it was designed by a bald guy, for bald guys. Love it. Only thing I'm apprehensive about are bumps. Did any of you guys break out in bumps days after your first day going sly? I plan on also ordering headshed, headslick, headlube, and clearhead. I know us black people tend to break out easier so I really HOPE that's not true with the scalp as well. I guess we'll see. Anyway, nice community you guys have going. All seem like a good bunch of guys.

Welcome, Kal-El.

Sometimes guys do have problems with bumps at first, until the the skin gets used to being scraped with a blade. It's usually a minor problem that goes away once the scalp toughens up a bit. It varies from individual to individual. As you know, a lot of black men shave their heads and don't seem to have a problem with bumps. I'm guessing that it is probably more of a problem with facial hair, which tends to be coarser.

Welcome Son, great to have you aboard. Yeah, bumps may occur till the old noggin gets used to the daily shave, but using things such as ClearHead or BaldGuys Moisturing Gel can help eliminate a lot of that.

S.o.K.,
Go for it! Today is my one week anniversary of slyness, and I couldn't be happier. There's a lot of great information on the forum about shaving routines and products; a little research and experimentation will help you find a combination of products and techniques that works for you. I've had minimal issues with bumps (mostly in the first day or two, and especially after I used a partially charged electric to touch up my head...bad idea), and the info in the forums has helped a lot in finding ways to deal with them. I think for most of us it doesn't end up being a major issue, especially if you develop a shaving routine that is kind to your skin.
We're looking forward to your first sly pic!

Hey Son....great to have you here. The bumps...that just comes with the territory at first. But they will go away. Once your head get seasoned and use to having a blade scraping across the skin....you will have a nice smooth noggin. There are many many different ways to care for your freshly shaved noggin. You mentioned you have been a lurker for a few days. So just wondering what topics you hit on and checked out thoroughly.
My recipe for a nice smooth noggin goes as follows.
After about 30-45 of being up in the morning..i jump in the shower. Warm water drenches my noggin while im washing. Grab the headslick shaving lotion...quarter size or a tad bit smaller goes on the nogin. I use the headblade sp....make sure you apply all pressure to the back wheels. Once the noggin is nice and smooth, I rinse with hot water. Then stand back out of the spray of the shower head. ( if you have one that is dettachable...this works great) Turn off the hot water and crank up the cold water......give your noggin a good crisp wake up and this closes the pores. Once that is done.....Now comes the shocker.....ICE CUBE.....yelp rub down that noggin with an icecube.....feels awesome.....then towel dry the noggin....rub in cold fresh from the fridge clear aloe vera gel.....and you are ready to go. This recipe gives my dome a nice slick smooth and glossy look.
Like I said...everyone is different....but you should try all until you get to the one you liek the most.
Good Luck...Glad to have you here bro....

Son, good to have you with us at SBG's!. You've chosen the right tool for the job with your HeadBlade. As you know, many of us use it here and we love it. Just remember to follow the directions and any tips you find here. Go slow and easy, smooth strokes and no pressure on the blade end. You'll be smooth and fine in no time, bro!
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Welcome...
There is only one way to find out what effects shaving your head will have...
do it.
Great attitude on the minoxidil, etc. Its just an overpriced product to help cope and make the person feel they have some control... in my opinion at least. The sooner you accept yourself for who you are the better everything else becomes.
