Childhood memories

• The thread about what razor your dad used or uses got me to thinking.
  
  This isn't about head shaving, because my dad had a full head of hair when he was still in good health. One thing I clearly remember him using on his hair was Vitalis Hair Tonic. I thought this stuff was a thing of the past, but was surprised to still find it. I obviously have no use for it, but it just makes me fondly remember my dad using it. It actually doesn't smell very appealing, but I thought about buying some just for sentimental reasons.

• Smell of old spice and my granddads old school razer, mixed with orange off, and oil cleaner for your hands.

• What I remember most about my childhood is something my kids dont understand today.  When Friday would arrive...it was a treat to be able to go out to eat.  We never went out for lunch or just went out to eat whenever we felt like it.  We only went on Friday nights.  My dad would come home from working in the railyard where he was a welder and he would get cleaned up  and I can still smell his mennen after shave.  It was in an odd shaped glass bottle with a black cap...and green was te color.  My brother and I would always sit by the bathroom door rushing dad so we could leave to go eat.  Its funny about the things we think about.  That just sorta got me to thinking....have you told your dad lately how much you appreciate him? My dad jsut drove by my work as I was typing this out and he honked and waved.  Ya know..I only live like 1.5 blocks from my parents ( yeah i know...sometimes too close) but I havent been over there since Thanksgiving.  One day its gonna be like...i wished I had done that then....or I should have done that sooner....or its too late now..he is gone.  My dad and I never really had the closest father/son relationship...but I know he loves me and I love him....we are just totally two different people.  So ...to all the Father's out there ..Merry Christmas.

• the smell of old greasy rags and solvent reminds me of my dad... I know it sounds less than endearing but he was a mechanic and smelled like that when he would get home from work etc.
  
  Sometimes when I am wrenchin in the garage a certain combo of smells triggers a flashback to being a kid... weird.

• Like TimmJ's dad, my dad was also a Mennen Skin Brazer user. That stuff was potent, old man stuff. I couldn't imagine using that on my dome. I'd feel like Ghost Rider.

• i remember my pops using his old spice cologne and the brut by fabrege.   hey timmy....stop by your dad's house and let him know that u appreciate him.  life is way 2 short.  speaking about shorts....leave your red and whites in the closet.

• My old man still wears Aramis cologne and I remember being 10 years old and getting ready to go out to eat, he would always put a couple of sprays on his shirt.I forgot about it and about 5 years ago I caught a whiff of it in a shopping centre and it brought me straight back to those days. I started wearing it myself too

• Here are some old medicines I remember (and not fondly): Caster Oil and Paregoric http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paregoric,   My dad used to wear a flat top and made it stand up with Butch Wax and a horse hair brush.

• well my dads been gone 28 years , but everytime i smell ol' spice or see "soap on a rope" i think of him !  and he used to use barbasol shave cream that he used to buy at ARLANS dept store  EVERY once in a while he'd get a bottle of hi karate for a present , but i dont really remember him wearing it , maybe it was ma's attempt at changing him, and for 40 years momz has worn white shoulders by coty . I think i pay now for a spritzer what i USED to pay for a BIG bottle . I remember as a kid me n pops went xmas shopping for momz one year and she wanted a pair of heels , well pops picked the style  and i INSISTED on the color!!!  BRIGHT RED , pops TRIED to talk me into another "normal" color  , but my heart was set on those RED heels, as long as i live , I'll NEVER forget what she said . She had this great big smile on her face as she STARTED to open the shoe box knowing she got her heels ,well if there EVER WAS A KODAC MOMENT this was it !!! she poped the top and seen those BRIGHT RED shoes and said....  OH HELL NO , IM NOT WEARING NO HOOKER RED HEELS !   broke my heart, after BOTH of us quit crying  :'(she explained what she meant , a couple days later WE went and exchanged the heels NOT for a different color, cuz moms knew thats the color I WANTED.... she got FLATS and i remember she wore those shoes till they were falling apart !    and our family didnt go out to eat  #ng^yvery often but once a month we went to BIG TIME WRESTLING

• I can only vision Porky inhertiting the red high heels.  I think they would look good with my "Red and Whites"  all stretched out across your ass walking down main street.  Bad thoughts Bad thoughts....someone take my brain and but it in a blender....oh wait....thats whats wrong with it now...Time to STRAIN ....STRAIN IT!

• Hey all I wanted to add this childhood memory my wife was telling me about.  This happened to her when she was a little girl.  My wife has 4 other sisters and one brother.  They all grew up in the country and they were always getting into trouble.  You know how those country kids are....cant control em worth sh*t.  Anyways she said it was a sunday afternoon and they were at her grandmothers house.  While my wife and her mom were standing at the kitchen sink doing dishes and looking out the window watching her siblings playing outside.  While watching  they noticed her grandmother was out by the kids behind a wood pile.  My wife said all of a sudden her mom started shouting breath damnit breath.....they both run out of the kitchen to the back yard over to her grandmother.  THey were surprised once they got there because what they seen from the kitchen window was totally different than what was really happening.  All they seen from the window was a bike layin on the ground and her grandmother out there using her hands pumping up and down...like she was tryin to get someone to breath...well what she was actually doing was airing up a tire.  My wifes mother thought her son had passed out or something and wasnt breathing and he was recieving CPR! LOL....we laugh about taht all the time when I see my mother in law.  It will just be out of the blue and I will holler out....Breath Damit Breath...and it gets the whole room laughing.  Only my mother in law.  I love her to death...she is my Maw.

• Every payday would go to local greasy spoon and get 10 for $1.00 hamburgers or sit on bar stools and eat a bowl of chili! Can still smell that chili!
  Plus the people that made the $10 for a $1.00 hamburgers are still in business and taste just as good! But now they are 2 for $1.69! and still worth it!
