Never heard that about the pick pockets, but only been to Naples and Sicily.  Ensure you use travelers checks then and maybe use a money belt you can keep under your clothes.  Have a great trip fcb and take plenty of pics to share.  Bon Voyage bro.

Relatives recently returned from Rome didn't complain about any pickpockets other than the Euro!

Keep nothing in your pockets, except an empty wallet.

Whenever I'm going to be in a crowded place where there could be pick-pockets, I empty my wallet to the bare essentials and carry it in my front pocket.  I'd like to think I'd have a knee jerk reaction to anyone grabbing me anywhere in my front.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

Just be careful as you would in any big city and don't carry a lot of cash with you.  Have a good time and let us know all about your trip when you get back.  I've been to Venice and Florence but not Rome.

In Europe I carry a small fanny pack, but wear it in the front and loop the belt through several of the belt loops.  The snap (which is in the rear) is large enough that it cannot feed through my belt loops if it is (or comes) unsnapped.

Those trips half way around the world are very tiring.  I remember my trip to Finland...15 hours in a jet isnt the best situation..especially when the plane is full.  On the way over..I had 2 seats on either side of me...so I made myself a bed. Glad you made it home OK...and yes please let us know how it all went
