Hello, all!
SlyInSLC here. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. (No - I’m not a Mormon, in case you’re wondering. That always seems to be the first question when I mention where I’m from.)
I’ve been Sly two weeks today, and I finally decided to join in. I had actually been thinking of shaving my head for the last several years due to my receding hairline. I was a lurker here for a week or two, and reading everyone’s posts definitely encouraged me to take the big plunge. Thanks for all the shaving tips; they’ve been really helpful.
I am finally getting used to the feeling of the back of my head. It felt so strange – like it was numb – especially for the first week or so. I’m liking the feeling of the cool breeze on my newly shaved noggin. I may have picked the wrong time to do this though, since we’re just going into winter.

Welcome--I'm only entering the eighth week, but when you mentioned "numbness" I had to tell you--it was like my first post here. It goes away in about a week, and the breeze feeling too after about three or four. I think it may have to do with the sensory nerves on the skin were "disconnected" while the sensation of touch was delivered through the hair shaft. My guess is that the brain reconnects to the skin sensors once the hair is no longer receiving stimulation. But that's just my

crazy a__ed thoughts about it. Have fun, and this place will answer a lot questions and give you a lot of great advice about you new Sly Life.

Welcome SLC...enjoy the new look and feel of sly. The numb feeling fades, but the cold air hitting the dome will get your attention every time.

Welcome here! The numbness is very common in the first days of headshaving. I think saintc hit the nail.
Enjoy being sly.

Welcome to SBG's SLC!, good to hear you decided to join us and be pro-active on the hair loss.

There is plenty of helpful info and tips here, and a great bunch o' guys to BS with too.
As far as the right time to shave, any time is good, as long as you do it.
And don't worry about the cold, that's why they make hats, lol.

Enjoy the forum!

Hey SLC . I hear you about the "numbness" ... I never really know how to describe it. Anyway; it's a feeling I really like now. So welcome; and enjoy the cool breeze moving across your head (I do -- I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. It's been 0 farenheit here for the past week! )
