I grew up with real trees but for the past 3 years we have had a pre-lit artificial tree that spins.
I really like the real trees but between the co$t of the real trees (we were paying about $70-90 for a tree when we got the fake) and the mess and hassle... it is a better option for us.
We may go do the "cut your own" deal when we are actually here for Christmas. -

We've always gotten a real tree. We have several Xmas tree farms nearby. The drill is to jump on the back of a flat-bed tractor up to area where they're harvesting. Then, they hand you a saw and keep doing laps, picking up everyone and their trees.
Every time I suggest that we get a fake tree, my wife and daughter rebel, so the tradition continues.
When I had my bachelar pad (many years ago), I had a fake tree. When Xmas was over, I dragged it in the walk-in closet, fully decorated. It was pretty damn convenient the next year -- just drag the tree out and plug it in .... -

Hah! That's awesome.
For the past 15 years at least now we've had an artificial one at home. The same one too
, but it's all good. What's important is what the tree represents. Family, good times, and food. Haha, in no particular order

I've ALWAYS had a real tree, can't beat Nova Scotian spruce baby. For my first year living in the city, I bought a 3 foot potted spruce and planted it back home after the holiday season and I plan to do it this year as well.

Growing up, we had a shiny aluminum tree. The spot light had a plastic wheel that rotated to make it blue, red and green. What a trip!! No telling what that thing would be worth now.
Man, I'd LOVE to have that one now! -

Saw some in Target yesterday
Growing up, we had a shiny aluminum tree. The spot light had a plastic wheel that rotated to make it blue, red and green. What a trip!! No telling what that thing would be worth now.

My mom just dropped off some Christmas ornaments from when I was a kid. I have a hand painted Spiderman ornament that I loved to hang. Though, the thing is pretty heavy so it has to go on a strong branch. I'll try to get a picture of it and post it.

We always went and cut our tree me and the wife.. made it something special.. Trees where huge.. last one we got was 10 feet high at least 5 wide.. Huge one's I tell U my loved it.. but at some point I bought a one at CND tire with the lights in them. it's smaller and not really realistic but no more MESS.......
Now I"ve got a huge tree stand, and watering system in the basement Just in case we decide to go back to realtree.
Not my intentions thought.. -

My mom just dropped off some Christmas ornaments from when I was a kid. I have a hand painted Spiderman ornament that I loved to hang. Though, the thing is pretty heavy so it has to go on a strong branch. I'll try to get a picture of it and post it.
Nice to have ornaments that are passed down through the generations. Perhaps someday your daughter will display those ornaments on her tree.
I have a few that my grandmother made and a few from when I was a kid. I'm intending to pass these along to my daughter someday. They always bring back good memories ... -

Didn't know whether to post this here or in advantages & disadvantages, but it's more Christmas tree related!
Just finished putting the lights on the natural tree, and no damn sap in the hair this year, a damp towel cleaned everything up neatly, sap doesn't get much of a hold on a shiny top! Every year, the morning after the tree, I had to really scrub the locks to get that damn sap out and lost more of the stuff than usual doing it. I'm loving it 
!

I started a tradition with my son when he was knee high to a grasshopper, where we go tag a real tree at a tree farm in South Carolina the day after thanksgiving, then about 2 weeks before christmas we go and he cyts it down, and I string the lights and drink while he puts the ornamants on it
This year since we won't be home he told me there was no use in putting up a tree, thats why he is my son!! -

I'm like heronm I grew up with the shiny tree!
and now we have a green artificial with a blue theme!
