Has it really been that long?
« on: November 18, 2007, 07:50:29 PM »
Over the past few weeks, as I've been adding some of my favorite tunes to my new iPod, it's come as a bit of a shock to me when I realized how old some of these songs are.  Why is when you look back at something that happened 20 years ago, it seems like a lifetime ago, but a song that's been around for 20 years seems like it just came out yesterday?

I know what you mean, Razor, I still don't think of 80's music as "Oldies".

I know what you mean, Razor, I still don't think of 80's music and "Oldies".

Neither do I.  And I almost called a local radio station in protest one morning when they played a song released in 1991 as that morning's "golden oldie" selection.  A song should be at least 20 years old before it's considered an "oldie".

Guys, we're all "oldies".

The three of us are all pretty much the same age. The music I listen to is likely akin to yours ("classical rock"), we're all Oakland Raider fans  :*)), face it, we're all oldies.

Pretty good, thanks for asking.  Hey, did ya see those Chiefs almost take the Colts.  I thought we held our own pretty good.  Better than I thought it was gonna look like.

Actually, I did not watch any football today (thankfully.......god my Raiders blow chunks). Please Al Davis....play JaMarcus Russell.

Now, let's return you to our regularly scheduled thread.

Back on track, thanks Schroman.
I have been listening to a local station here that plays "oldies", well to me they are really oldies, hits and songs from the 60's and 70's mostly, which I remember from my youth. It's funny how these songs, which I had all but forgotten, or weren't "cool", come back to me and I am really digging them now.
My Mom always had good music on and had some great albums that I would listen to as a kid. I have always been a rock fan, Classic rock, Hard rock. etc., and I agree Razor, when I think back on how old some of these songs from my time are it amazes me.
We are all getting older, but one thing about music is it sort of stays timeless. In my opinion, the newer music coming out these days can't hold a candle to the artists and songs from the times I referred to above. I am old school when it comes to a band actually playing their instruments, as opposed to the ones who mix and sample recordings to create. Seems everyone wants a shortcut these days.

YEPPERS!!!

The Oldies station I listen to (60's & 70's) has, as part of their slogan....."KOOL 105.1, OPERATING ON THE ASSUMPTION THAT THE BEST MUSIC HAS ALREADY BEEN RECORDED"   O0
