Aloha!  New to the world of headshaving. 

Question: how long does it take for the scalp to get accustomed to shaving, primarily when going against the grain?  No matter how much shaving gel I use, the initial pull against the grain feels like tugging/pulling hair with definite resistance.  Usually end up with a couple of cuts/blood.  I currently am using the headblade sport and am about to give up and look for an electic razor to minimize the time & fuss it takes to manually shave on a daily basis.  Any suggestions?

It took mine about 30 days of shaving against the grain.  It was difficult at first - lots of razor bumps.  I just kept working at it until I got a routine that worked.  There are lots of good posts with information all over this site.  Just experiment and see what works for you.

Thanks for the insight.  Am in search of the right products for me and can't wait for the next daily shave.  Have had it off for only a week and now it's become an obsession.  I'm addicted!!

Welcome, Birdiehunter.

How long it takes for the scalp to adjust depends on your skin.  There are other blades you can use with the Headblade; perhaps one of them would suit you better.  And for what it's worth, shaving your head with an electric razor takes more time, not less, than a blade.  You have to keep going over the same spots over and over with an electric to get it smooth.  And even if you can get it feeling pretty smooth, the results are not as long lasting, so you'll get the velcro effect a lot faster.  I'd suggest expermenting with some different baldes before going the electric route.

Welcome to Sly Bald Guys birdiehunter. 

What blade are you using on your sport?  What shaving gel/lotion/oil are you using?  These could be a factor in your irritation as it shouldn't take too long to adjust to shaving.

Welcome birdiehunter to the gang.  As the other bros have said, do a little experimentation not just with the blades but with other products and get a routine down that works best for you.

Have switched to a Gillette Sensor blade on the HB Sport and it seems a little better than the original blade that came with it.  Bought a few shaving creams & gels to try out too.  I'll stick with a manual blade and develop a routine that works for me in the long run.  Appreciate the welcome & all of the feedback.

Welcome birdie.....glad you found this site.  I use the headblade sport faithfully.  Just that you have to pay close attention that you DO NOT apply pressure to the head of the blade. Always keep the wheels on teh skin.  I also use Headslick lotion to shave with and then follow up with clear aloe vera gel taht I keep stored in teh fridge.  Seems to work for me.  It will take up to a month before you get your routine down. Just dont get frustrated...cause we all have been thru it before.  You will find yours. Look around these different post and you will find useful info im sure.  Well, welcome again bro..nice to have you here.

I tried the Headblade with the Atra blades for a while.  They gave a good close shave, but they also caused some irritation.  Hopefully the Sensors will do the trick for you.
