Alcohol + Blades = Sharper Razors

hey all. i posted this in another thread, but didn't know if it would be seen by that many, so here it is for community benefit. if you put simple rubbing alcohol on your razor blades after usage, it will keep the blade sharper longer. really, it's basic science. when you leave water on your blades and set the razor down, the blade corrodes (just like rust). if you dip the razor in alcohol, the alcohol will not protect the blade from corrrosion, it will kill any bacteria that would like to multiply on it between then and your next shave. rubbing alcohol is less than a buck a bottle at your local pharmacy orr supermarket, and you really will see and feel the difference. normally, i use the mach 3 blades and i get two uses out of one single blade--anywhere beyond that and i bleed fountains. but since using the alcohol, i'm getting four uses out of a single blade, and could probably squeeze out a fifth with minimal damage--that's at minimum doubling the life of my razors (saving buku cash). so at minimum, guys, dry your razors off after you shave to eliminate any excess moisture that causes corrosion, and store them standing up in dry(er) places. i heard somebody say they just use a little cup of alcohol and leave the razor in that while they're not using it, but i would guess that the alcohol would eat away at the 'lubrastrip' or whatever the heck it's called on some razors (my mach 3 turbo has that aloe vera strip on it), so i would advise just pouring a little over the blade after you shave. that alone will kill the bacteria, wash off the water, and form a protective layer until next time. holy crap that's a long post. happy headshaving--asher

I'm thinking this helps. I've been doing this for at least the past two weeks and I've only changed blades once. Of course I didn't write it down when I started so yesterday I put on a new fusion and a new blade on the HB (generic Atra) and stuck a post it inside the medicine cabinet. I'll let you know when I switch again.

I tried this for a couple of days and it didn't work very well for me. I thought it made the little white/blue strip drag on my head. Maybe it's just my head.

I have been having good success with this method myself. In fact I took it a step farther. When shaving, I rinse the blade after each pass on the dome and then dip it in alcohol before taking the next pass. Seems to remove built up residue and give a closer shave. Then rinse blade thoroughly at the end, dip in alcohol and put away till next use. Getting over two weeks to the blade.

UPDATE: Tomorrow makes 10 days, and I'm still getting high quality smoothness.

Now this is something I'm going to try for sure.. man the blades are so expensive.
I get at least 4 to 5 shave with my m3.. but after that it's at my own risk..
so will deff. try it.
Thanks guys.
