Does the benefits of bald outweigh hair?
« on: July 29, 2025, 08:55:31 AM »
So back on Friday I shaved my head for the first time ever, everyone is saying that I look good but they are surprised I went bald..
So far I noticed the benefits of having it shaved are I am not now sweating as bad as I was with hair nor am I feeling hot anymore instead the back of my head near that one bone.. I am mostly colder..
Do y'all think the benefits of me being bald truly outweighs me growing it back out?

Most guys notice the coolness right away.  That is a big benefit if you live in a hot climate.  It could be a negative if you live in a cold climate.

Most of the guys here that shave will say the benefits of shaved outweigh the benefits of hair.  I assume from the question you still have a full head of hair if you choose to grow it.  So the benefits of shaving it are the coolness (as you mentioned), no pricey haircuts, no worries over your beard style, and no worries about future male pattern baldness.  Then on the other side, hair will reduce or eliminate the risk of sun burn to the head, can be worn in many various styles or lengths, and you do not need to shave it.

So it really comes down to your choice to decide which you like best for yourself.

Will the answer to your question is a purely personal one no one can decide that for you
But the thing to hone in on is, how do you feel about you?  It?s not about how you look it?s not about how other people think you look it?s about how you feel being clean shaven if you find the feeling liberating and empowering and if you think it looks good on you, then the decision is made right?

So follow the 30 day rule and keep it clean, shaving for 30 days and at the end of the 30 days you make a reason choice as to whether or not you wanna grow back here or stay clean and smooth

I agree, do the 30 day challenge! Shave everyday for 30 days. It give you and others time to get used to seeing you bald. I always say, if you see other guys with a shaved head and think it looks good, you will probably like wearing a smooth head too. When I first shaved my head, it was supposed to be a one time shave, that was 12 years ago and I'm still shaving daily!

I agree with everyone here. Do the 30 day challenge. It really depends on how you feel about it as Semi-Sly pointed out. When I first shaved my head, I loved it immediately and knew it was for me and I stuck with it. I was actually annoyed at how fast the stubble came back! With a shaved head, I felt liberated.

I'm not sure if one benefit outweighs another benefit. I think it really comes down to hair quality. If your hair has thinned out and you are balding, just shaving your head brings a lot of relief. If you have a full head of hair, like I did when I first started shaving, do you want to shave it because you really don't like your hair in general? I never really liked my hair -- it was hard to style so I started buzzing my hair. I was buzzing my hair so short that I got curious about shaving.

It's interesting about your sweat! My sweat pours down over my bald head into my eyes like a waterfall. No hair to hold it back. Just use sun screen though! Aveeno makes a good SPF15 moisturizer.

I don't know about you, but in my case shaving my head had so many benefits, including saving money on haircuts and tips, hair care products, being not as hot in the summer, not having to worry about styling my hair, and no zits on my scalp.
Bald by Choice since July 2023!  Having hair is overrated.

@jason_greets Yes, all the practical reasons why bald is more beneficial. The cost of a haircut is insane anymore! I think $30 has become the average.

I used to dred getting a haircut. I never knew how it would turn out. It was also hard to find a good barber. I just never felt good after a trip to the barbershop. So, I figure since I started shaving my head, I saved about $3000 on haircuts! Well, minus the cost of razors.

Even though I use expensive razors (Gillette Fusion), I can get about year's worth of shaving supplies for the cost of a single haircut at today's prices.

I've saved at least $720 by not going to a barber, and it doesn't include hair products.

@Thathawkguy001 I'm curious what kind of blades do you use, or do you use a rotary or foil shaver? I've already saved $90.00 on haircuts since I started shaving my head in July. But I've spent $20 on razors (13) and $12 on a 3 pack of shave gel.
