So I've been shaving my head for about eight months now, because I was losing it up to, and it was quickly turning into shave it, or look like George Jefferson by the time I'm about twenty-eight. After winging it ever since - because honestly, how hard could shaving your head be (that's a rhetorical question, just chuckle and keep reading)? - finally decided to turn to you guys about a few things.
I've been noticing that my scalp, though smooth, used to burn as if the skin was irritated when I very first started shaving. I do have dandruff, so, seeing as that affects your scalp, not your hair, I use T'Gel and/or Head and Shoulders on my scalp. Weird that I have no hair, but still have to use shampoo. But also, times when I've seen dry skin on my scalp after I've shaved supports this theory, or at least, I think so.
I've also noticed that, as the hair grows back (I shave about once a week), again, the skin burns, itches, and feels irritated. It also causes mild pain to rub my head against the grain while the hair is growing back. For example, right now I have a week's worth of stubble; if I were to rub the back of my head, against the grain of that hair, it's painful, as if I'm going against hairs that haven't quite broken the skin yet or something. Mind you, the pain isn't debilitating, but something tells me that going against the grain of my hair with my hand, a towel, etc. shouldn't cause any pain or discomfort at all.
Now that I've established that there's more to shaving one's head than just taking a razor and shaving - which I should probably point out, I use a Gilette four-blade razor and shaving cream - until your head is smooth and shiny, please read that and offer any insight you can on why shaving my head upsets my scalp so much. Is there anything I can/should do differently?
Thanks for your help. Glad to be here.
