Hello fellow bald guys!
« on: July 14, 2015, 01:57:25 PM »
Good Evening all,

Just a quick introduction... My name is toby & I'm 22.. Not bald out of choice but I'm absolutely loving it!

I started shaving my head myself recently after a few trips to the barbers... Currently using a fusion with 5 blades, going to look into the headblade sport soon.

I'm also rocking the bald head with a full beard! :)

Hello again from the UK!

Here is an image of how I look right now...

The step from having long hair, to thinning hair & eventually shaving was very daunting but I don't think I would have hair again if I could! Really enjoying the bald head!

I still can't work out if I prefer with or against the grain. I know the feeling of the shave against the grain is superior to With the grain but for the risk of irritation or discomfort, is it worth it?

Welcome aboard!
In the beginning I would do with the grain, but when your skin gets used to a razor, against the grain is better. Nice tattoos, btw

Thank you for the compliments on the tattoos, I'm going for a whole upper body suit. Currently I have both sleeves done, chest done & back done... Next up is the ribs and front piece, I still have a few areas around the back and shoulder to finish off.

My head doesnt seem too bad with the shaving against the grain but I don't want to irritate it too bad.

Thanks again buddy

I'm an against the grain shaver, it gives me the smoothest shave.  As long as you take your time wile you're learning and letting the skin get used to the razor, you shouldn't get any irritation.

Don't press down hard and let the razor glide and do the work.  Also make sure to splash your head with cold water afterwards, or as some on here do, rub an ice cube on your head after you shave and that will reduce any kind of irritated feeling.  I also use an aftershave lotion that helps cool the head and gives it a nice shine.

The tattoos are dope!  I have several myself and would like to sleeve up.

Cheers for the tips, so far i've been going WTG then ATG and then going over any missed bits... Probably taking around 15 mins.

I have been splashing with cold water after and then using a post shave balm which soothes the head & seems to reduce irritation. I also apply a moisturiser evening and morning, how does this routine sound?

Cheers for the welcome guys.

Welcome to the board, Toby.

Against the grain has been the only way I ever have been able to get the smooth I like as well. I don't even consider going with the grain now.

Good thinking in using an after shave balm. Until your skin gets used to the blade on a regular basis, the balm can be a definite asset to your routine.

Glad you joined us.

Toby, you look great man! It might help you also to use a pre-shave oil like baby oil or Shave Secret to put on before the cream/gel.

Damn Sam; you look great!  That smooth head with your sharp facial features and ink to envy; the complete package!

A lot of guys on this board are, like me, coming late in life to tattoos and piercing.  So you will find a lot of interest and sharing on the board about that as well.

Welcome to the "movement".

Thank you all for the warm welcome & compliments!

I have been using a shaving foam, are creams/gels better?

I am loving the forum, thanks again all!
