An Update on Cayden
« on: August 16, 2007, 10:39:49 PM »
So as I boasted about for weeks in Febuary I got a dog. I uploaded pictures of him and my was he cute.

Well Cayden is what we chose to name him, and he is now 6 months old, turned it on the 14th. He weighs in at about the 60lbs mark and he's still has about 10-20 lbs left in him to grow.

He's such a sookie baby, so very loving and affectionate, alway giving kisses, and for 6 months old is very very well trained. He actually just graduated Basic Puppy and will be going on to Basic Good Manners in the early fall. I am in hopes to have him in agility by next summer. He is a natural athlete, a fwe weeks ago he was running around the house (cause that's what he does when he's being psycho) and he deceided he was going to jump on the couch, well there was a box in his way that was about 3 feet high and 3 feet wide, and maybe a foot from the couch. He cleared it with ease.

He also thinks he is a king, he'll disappear for 20 30 minutes bebfore we clue in he's not around, and when we find him, he'll be sleeping on the guest bed with his head on the pillows.

So anyway, Cayden's great. very healthy, and if you haven't clued in Cayden is my world. We are actually giong to get a second dog, and I've talked my other half in to letting me get a boxer. So now fellows, you know any good boxer breeders? preferablly a Canadian Breeder, but if a sly guy breed's them and can give another sly a deal we can arrange something.

If anyone is planning on getting a dog in the near future buy a Kennal for the dog to go in when you are in bed and not home. I wouldn't ever get a dog and not have a kennal, we love them so much Cayden has 2, one for travel and one that isn't airplane/bus safe.

If you want to pretend to care you cn check out this link to veiw pics i have of him on facebook.

Awesome bro!  There's nothing like a good and loyal dog.

Don't let price be the driving factor. You can spend more money in the long run on vet bills if you get a dog that is not healthy.  The most important thing you can do to ensure that you're getting a healthy and well-socialized pet is to make sure you're dealing with a reputable breeder.  I really can't emphasize this enough.  Only deal with breeders who are members of the national or local breed clubs, as they are the ones who must follow a code of ethics requiring them to screen their breeding stock for genetic diseases, and they will also provide you with support for the lifetime of the dog and take the dog back at any time for any reason should you not be able to keep her.

It's important to go with someone who shows their dogs and participates in breed activities - because that's the only way that you have some validation that the pup's parents were of sufficient quality to be worthy of being bred.  Don't buy from a pet shop, broker (a third party who sells pups on behalf of someone else) or people who are breeding their own pets and advertise in the newspaper.  Their responsibility ends at the point of sale, unlike conscientious hobby breeders who will be responsible for any animal they produce, as long as that animal is alive.

Here is a list of members of the Boxer Club of Canada.  This is a good place to start your search:

http://boxerclubofcanada.com/membership.html

Some other important things to remember:

1.  Get a female puppy because you already have a male.  Opposite sexes are less likely to fight.

2.  Don't buy a white Boxer puppy or one that is predominately white.  White Boxers are genetically unsound.

Here's a link to the American Boxer Club's website which has a good article on how to recognize a reputable breeder.   You may also find a good breeder through this site.  There might be somebody just across the border who's closer to you than anyone in Canada:

http://americanboxerclub.org/buy-pup.html

Good luck in your search.  I looked at Cayden's photos and I can see why you're so proud of him.

I hear ya, though I actually have a really cool cat.  It will go on walks with me and the dog and the whole time it will hide behind bushes and then jump out and attack the dog like it's a mountain lion or something.  It completely cracks me up.

Not to hijack the thread, but that's pretty cool Tyler.

This morning, one of our worthless, stupid, idiotic, ungrateful cats woke me up from a deep sleep hacking up a hairball the size of Ohio. I was too pissed off the get back to sleep. If my wife weren't there, the number of cats stealing air from Chateau Schro would be reduced from 2 to 1.

schro you are funny dude...

thanks for the advice about the white boxers, now that i know that i won't get one, i know that the CKC doens't allow them to be shown but i didn't know they are genitic defects. that's what we wanted to get originally, and we planed on a female, the girlfriend felt there would be too much testostorne in the house.

Yeah cayden is a loyal pup, and very smart. He's goign to bring me years of happiness

Great looking dog there Frosty, from those later photos looks like he is at the all legs stage too.  Keep posting photos on his development, they're great to see.

Sorry schro, but that is a blanket prejudice.  For the workin sly guy, cats can be great company when the hours you keep make having a dog impossible.  My cat greets me every time at the door, rolls over to have his belly petted then wants to be picked up and scratched, follows me like a dog everywhere I go, including the yard, and never strays.  Like Tyler said they can be cool and crack you up with stuff like sleeping in the sink, smacking the dog on the head head every time he walks by or just smacking something around the house for a half hour.  Would never have admitted this to my ex, but cats can be great.

Well then Paul, I'll sleep comfortably underneath my predujicial blanket. Glad you've had a positive cat experience. Personally, I'd rather have a pet rock than another cat.

Not a pet cat named Rock? :*)) or Felix the, or the Catwoman, or a ride on a catamaran, then you better not get a cataract, or go to Catalina.
