Let there be sharpness
« on: August 04, 2014, 09:56:10 PM »
Got home, and my Santa Postman left me a nice present at the door  :)

A full set of Arkansas stones (soft, hard, black, and translucent).
I need to lap them, but this should be fun.  I don't know if they'll be oil stones or water stones yet, I'll make thar decision after lapping.  Might be a fun progression (3k, 4k, 5k, 8k, 12k, trans).
I really only want the trans because of the edge it can produce, and I'm not wanting to spend the $$ for a coti or a jnat.

Ah wet shaving, not just a job - it's an adventure....

Ok, it's official - lapping arkies is a bitch!
I've spent the last 2 days with an arsenal of flattening stones, wet/dry and dmt hones getting these things ready to use.

So, I took a couple of my Gold Dollar cheapie razors and went to wor.k,

50 laps on the soft, 50 laps on the hard, 70 laps on the black and 100 laps on the transparent.

I now have 3 $10 razors that have an edge like my TI's.

And they all shave smooth, I could put in a little more to get them a bit smoother, but so far it's been worth the work   ;)

Glad to hear it. I agree. Shaving is an adventure. Can't beat having a chrome dome in my opinion.
