I have an empty Stridex container that I use to soak cotton balls in rubbing alcohol, then every few days I'll give my razor a good wipe down to get as much soap scum as I can.
I'd like to do it after every shave but there's not always time. -

Rubbing alcohol is IMO more convenient than Barbicide. Just rinsing doesn't really clean the razor in my experience. Soap scum probably doesn't effect the razor terribly, but I prefer to keep mine looking nice. -

After every safety razor shave, I perform a cold water rinse on my razor and blade, shake it, and do a alcohol spray (3oz container) and let it air dry for 6-8 hours. Once a month... I will clean my razors with a tooth brush with either Scrubbing Bubbles or Joy dish washing liquid with hot water to get rid of the soap build up.

I tend to just tear mine down, clean it off, towel dry and back in the rack.
But, I also use a scuttle, so I have some cleaning and drying to do after I'm done anyway....

Can you use regular dish soap on the razor when it needs cleaned?

I use washing up liquid and it does a great job!
