A little back ground on me.
My name is Jacab (Like Jacob not Jay-cab) and I have always had a high forehead. In the last 2 years I have slowly but surely come to terms with the fact that I am balding at the VERY young age of 22. When I turned 24, I decided to pull out the clippers which shocked a few people. I guess because I usually had my hair fixed to hide my widows peak. 2 weeks ago today I decided that that was the day I was going Sly! I stopped at my local Walgreen's and purchased a Gillette Proglide Power (for $11) and a pack of extra cartridges (for $23). I went home, jumped in the shower, scrubbed my head real good to open up the pores, lathered up and made the best decision I have made in a very long time. I can only find one reason to let my hair grow out again and that is the cost of razors.
I always knew I would end up Sly seeing as how my grandfather and uncles on both sides of my family have rocked the horse shoe head (no hair on top, thin hair all the way around). I told myself time and time again that I would never EVER get to that point.
General reaction to the first time my family seeing me was accepting but was still the butt of many jokes. My work fellows still can not get it through there heads and I catch hell every day. I should probably note that I work in the oilfield so I knew what I was getting myself into.
The only complaint about going sly this early is that I didn't find out about the forum earlier! Ya'll have been extraordinarily helpful and you probably didn't even know! I hope to soak up any and all advice I can.
Thanks for having me!

Welcome Jacab. The jokes will subside soon enough and your bald head will not be a novelty pretty quickly. I'm glad you're already realizing the many benefits of being sly!

Glad you joined us, sir.
Congratulations on making a decision and following through so quickly. I sported the horseshoe for over twenty-five years, and it still took me overtwo months to work up the nerve to shave everything smooth.
As Mike said, the jokes/ribbing should subside once the "newness" of your smooth head wears off. You might even be surprised to discover some of the other guys scoping out your dome as they contemplate their own hairloss.

Welcome, Jacab.
As long as you like the look, there is nothing anyone can say to make that go away. If anyone with a horseshoe makes fun of you... well... they are just jealous that they don't have the nerve.

Congrats Jacab! It's nice to have you with us. I'm only a few years older than you are and like you, the horseshoe was never an option for me either. I got to looking like Friar Tuck and knew deep down it was time for the hair to go. I've been sly for exactly two months now and love it!

Jacab, welcome to the Sly side. Now that you've eased into shaving you can experiment a bit with other razors/blades. It seems that everyone is different in terms of preference and how particular brands work for them. But I'm sure you can find something which is less costly for the long term. Again, welcome.
