Hey Bros, Barry Bonds just hit HR #755 against the Padres. Reactions?

I applaud him that he achieved this awesome record without the aid of any performance enhancing supplements.

I'm not a big fan of Bonds, but I do congratulate him on his achievement. Too bad that A-Rod will pass him up in a couple of years.

Too bad it is a tainted achievement.

Well, he's paying for it. Just imagine the achievement that he has, yet he doesn't have one $100 million endorsement deal like other athletes with much less in accomplishments.

True. I just hate to see him get any recognition for it, though. His achievement will always have an asterisk next to it.

But even that recognition will be forever haunted by the question: Would he have been able to do it truly on his own?

Somehow I doubt Henry Aaron had the assistance of chemicals to achieve his 755. Even if Bonds surpasses him which he will, Hank will always be the true Home Run King as he achieved his record honestly and was a humble sportsman

I'm not a huge baseball fan, but I do remember when Hank Aaron grabbed the record (I guess that makes me old). I read that some people held up signs at the game with only a huge asterisk when Bonds hit his homer. I applaud that sentiment. It's very hard to get excited about this event; it just seems 'dirty,' and no one should be watching.

JDog, gotta say your comment was my fave! Being the big BRAVES fan that I am, I was kinda down when BB passed Hank Aaron and I do think that time will reveal that this entire era (90's on) will be known as the "Steroids Era" and records such as the HR will not be not be as easily recognized by most fans.
Interestingly enough, there was a big story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution concerning Chipper Jones's comments to the NY media during the Braves' series in NY last week - he was quoted as saying that A-Rod better watch his back now, since he's been annointed to pass Bonds, and that now everyone will focus more on him and question whether or not he's used or not. That's the pathetic result of the Bonds era - most every record will be scrutinized from now on!

and you would be wrong. every generation had performance enhancing substances.
Hank Aaron was downing amphetimines like candy before and during the games.
This is fact. Go look it up. Very common practice during Aaron's days.
Not to mention... half the guys out there are using the same stuff.
And let's talk about performance enhancers. Where is the line drawn? Creatine bad, protein powder okay? Abnormal diets okay? How about shoes and bats? Means everyone that breaks a record has an asterix.
As far as Bonds... I remember an article from 2-3 years ago that said Bonds would never get his due because he didn't play the game with the press.
And guess what? You guys fell for it. Anyone that cheered Mark and Sammy and booed Barry is a hypocrite. Bonds refuses to kiss the ass of the press so they turned the world against him.
So, how do these people feel about being manipulated by the press?
