My fight with hair loss.
« on: January 18, 2014, 04:21:00 PM »
Hey guys!  Good to be a new member of the forum.

Some background about myself...

I am 30 years old and I have been balding since the age of 22.  Sadly, like many people here I waited too long before I could save all my hair and I have been maintaining a thick Norwood 3 for the past 4 years or so.

I started out with just minoxidil, then later added a ketoconazole shampoo, Nizoral.  This worked effectively for about a year but then I noticed I was losing ground.  Last year I added finasteride and it has completely stopped my hairloss.

Sadly, the temples remain receded so I have scheduled an appointment with Dr. James Harris of Colorado for an FUE, one of the top rated hair surgeons in the country.

My appointment is on the 26th of February and I figured I would post some pictures of myself now so you guys can see where I'm at and then post some after pictures once I have the transplant.

It is pricey but I am elated that I am no longer have to wake up every morning in fear that I will have to lose my identity and aesthetics to male pattern baldness.

Glad you have lots of money to waste.  You'd make a good looking bald guy.  It'd be much cheaper as well.  >:D

I really appreciate and admire you guys who have the confidence to shave your heads and I'm glad to know that under worst case scenarios you guys would accept me but I do not feel I have the appropriate facial structure or head shape to pull off the bald look.

Bald men are kind of like women with short hair, some women can pull it off, others cannot.

Another big problem is I cannot grow facial hair.  A bald, clean shaven man looks like an adult baby.

No doubt its a lot of money too.  I am getting 1200 grafts done and the price will be over 7 thousand US dollars.

Problem is I am not Vin Diesel or Jason Statham.

Taking drugs is one thing, mutilating your head is another. I suggest considering what happens in the future when your hairless continues -- and it will continue -- and your scars are prominent and uncover-able.

And very few of us have movie-star looks.

I'm not getting an FUT, that is the procedure that leaves scarring.  I'm getting an FUE which is not nearly as brutal, I don't even have to take time off from work.

I know that the other hair follicles will still be sensitive but if I stay on finasteride I think everything should be ok.  I have gotten reduced libido, soft erections and brain fog from the treatments but it isn't super bad.

So, what's your point?
Are you looking for our blessing to go ahead with a pricey, painful and pointless appointment with a "hair surgeon"? By the way, what the f*uck is a "hair surgeon" anyway.

I'm sorry, but as a moderator of this board, your posting here smells of nothing more than a troll trying to sell a pointless & costly superficial procedure.

Your time here is 100% against what Sly Bald Guys stands for.

Sorry, enjoy the graft. Buh Bye.

I agree with Schro that this bloke sounds like a con.  Indeed what is a 'hair surgeon'?

If he wants to waste his money than that is his decision but don't look to this supportive forum for any sympathy.

As much as I hate to think ill of someone, I have to agree with Schro's assessment of  UnemployedCSCS and echo the question of what was his point in making that post. Even before I read Schro's response, I saw too many hot topics in what UnemployedCSCS said.

Besides his hearty endorsement of Minoxidil and Finasteride before announcing he was going to a "hair surgeon" for a Follicle Unit Extraction (i.e. a transplant with fewer grafts), here are some examples of what I saw as his attempts to bait members:

Sadly, like many people here I waited too long before I could save all my hair...
I am elated that I am no longer have to wake up every morning in fear that I will have to lose my identity and aesthetics to male pattern baldness.

Sorry, sir, but that was just too blatant.

I am and probably always will be a little naive. At first I just read this as just a guy who was severely depressed.

I figured things had to be really bad since he didn't think a reduced libido, soft erections, and brain fog were "super bad."

After rereading his posts, they do seem like an ad for top rated hair surgeon, Dr. James Harris.

I agree with my fellow SBG's, why would you come here bragging about getting costly hair grafts?
It's bad enough you have chosen to use drugs which will hurt you in other ways in the long run. You obviously have big time insecurity with yourself, which a hair graft will not fix. One of the reasons this site is so successful is that we try to help men (and women) deal with their hair loss in a healthy way. You sound like you have no desire to even approach it in that respect. Let us know how it goes with your big time waste of money.  :/O
