New to Sly... and shaving
« on: May 01, 2013, 05:17:29 PM »
Well, after using clippers on my hair for the past 4 years I finally shaved last Friday.

I started going bald at 19 and now at 30, the crown was growing so much faster than the top of my dome, I finally decided to take the plunge.

After lurking here and researching, I decided to go the HeadBlade ATX route. So far so good. I bought a Sport model a couple of years ago, but never had the stones to use it. I think it was a good decision since I didn't have to retrain myself on the ATX.

Right now I'm just researching and spending tons of money trying to find products that don't leave my head looking like a flesh colored fun-house mirror.  I have all the HeadBlade products and have been using MatteLube on my forhead for years now. It wasn't great then, and it seems to be worse now that I am shaving. It stays matte for all of 15 minutes and by the end of the day, my head is a greasy, shiny mess.

Here is my list of recently purchased/ordered items(besides all HeadBlade Products):

Kyoku: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NV7NDQ/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Recipe for Men: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002B8JNEI/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Matte for Men cloths: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KZNW8Q/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And the most embarrassing one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002C0338W/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (In my defense, I saw it on menshealth.com)

Thanks for reading my small novel. I look forward to learning and contributing.

Thanks OzSly!

I'll post up my findings of my quest for matte..ness. I wonder what percentage of sly guys like shine, like matte, or just dont care.

Care to chime in folks?

Hi Slyadam! It's shine all the ways with me! It gets a bit of attention from people and that's a good thing! Will be interested to see how you get on with your quest for mattness as will be useful when toning down is wanted/required. Good luck!

Welcome, Adam! Nice story and intro. To answer your last question, I like to shine when going out, but when going to work, I prefer matte, as I come in contact with a lot of dust/dirt/mud at my job. Enjoy the forum and participate often!

Welcome.

I like the shine.  Headblade glossy. Or coconut oil. anything with lots of shine.  Enjoy seeing the fellow who are naturally bald and have extremely shiny heads.  Just think it looks very good.  Being bald by choice, I probably don't shine as much due to the shadow, but shine is my favorite look.

Welcome Adam! I've heard alum is good for reducing shine, and also periodically cleaning with wipes and drying. I learned to love the shine!

There are quite a few products to reduce shine on the market.

Nice avatar!

Thanks for all the comments guys.
Well, shine is definitely less maintenance, well essentially zero for me. :)

I'm gonna try all these products when they get here and see what works the best and is the easiest.
Maybe I'll try a week where I go shiny.

My matte routine will be put to the test this weekend. Heading to L.A. to hang with some friends and it's supposed to be 93 degrees. I've been a head sweater since I was a kid. I seem to perspire more on my forehead then anywhere else on my entire body.
 Should be fun!

I have slightly oily skin on my head, I found that when I started using an alum block to soothe after a shave, I stay matte all day
