Hi. I've been wanting to shave my head for a while, but haven't gotten around to it. However, I plan on going in costume as Bane from Dark Knight Rises the weekend after this one, so I will have gone sly by then. I'm 19, and while I'm not balding, I like the look. Anyone else started shaving it at this age? And those still living with parents--what was their reaction? Were they okay with it?

I am 25, but I wish I shaved my head at 19... I think most of us BBN guys wish they done the deed much earlier!
I live with my parents still (after finishing university I decided I wanted to do an apprenticeship too... apprentice wages suck

) and my parents are totally cool with it, they understand that it is what I wanted, and my mum actually helped me shave it the first time! Just give it a crack man, going as Bane will give you an awesome excuse to go sly and see how you feel, after Halloween just keep it sly for 30 days and I doubt you will want to go back!

Welcome to the group Chris_John ! Tell your parents that you're shaving your head for Halloween and take it from there. If your dad is naturally bald, then you might end up keeping it sly or he will join you ! Good Luck !

Welome along. If this is the look you want then at least you can try it out for Halloween and make the decision if it is for you or not?

Aloha and welcome...and just remember: "Young or Old...Bald is BOLD". I was 67 when I went SLY and wish I had done it sooner as all I had left were the gray, Krusty the Clown side wings. Like the other guys said, try the 30-day rule and then you will know that being BOLD was the right choice.

They won't like the idea but will likely allow it. I asked last year, but Easter was soon, and family pictures and everything. They said I could try it after, but I didn't.

I first shaved my head when I was 19 but I moved to the city and was staying with my brother. My parents didn't like it, and even a few years after first shaving, I still get teased about it by them but it doesn't faze me any more

Hi, Chris_john!
Like what JigSaw say's, it is a big step to have your head shaved & maintaining it is a whole lot easier than having to go for a haircut every 6 weeks or so. Just stick to the 30-day rule (shave your head every day) & you will get used to it as will others. I guarantee that once you start to shave your head that you will love it.
Advice - since it will be your first time for a head shave, go to a barbers & ask for a proper head shave, not just clippered but totally smooth. You will love the experience.
Remember to post pics if you can.
