Headblade: cleaning
«

I just started shaving my head about a month ago and I've only tried the Headblade Sport (triple blades) with Headslick shaving cream. It is working really well for me - smooth shave with no missed spots, no cuts or nicks, etc - except that the hair won't rinse out of the blades very well and it is constantly getting clogged up and then not shaving very well. I generally wait anywhere from 2 to 4 days in between shaves, and this hasn't made a difference with the blades clogging.
Anyone have any tips for cleaning these things? It seems like it is bad razor design (no space behind the blades for water to flow thru), but perhaps it could be the Headslick cream? Has anyone had a similar issue or have any luck with cleaning these razors?

I have not used a headblade, but I HAVE used headslick and it absolutely is a gummy mess in a multi blade razor (though, it has fantastic glide). I like to use a badger brush and basic shave cream to whip up a good lather, and then I add some headslick to the mixture and whip it up some more. This seems to be a more economical and less messy solution than the headslick alone. When I used multi-blade systems, I remember using a stiff bristle brush that came with a pair of clippers to get out the gunk...that worked pretty well.
Also, if you're fed up with the cost of cartridges and not afraid of a few nicks and cuts while you learn, a double edge safety razor gives an amazing shave and the blades are only around 15 cents a piece. I get a 100 pack of my favorite brand for around $15 on amazon and my Merkur NEVER gunks up.

Hi Homer ... Welcome to Sly Guys. I suggest you pop over to the Introductions topic and post a little about yourself and why you went sly and the experience so far. Great way for us to get to know each other.
As to your question, I had a similar problem and learned a great tip from another of the guys here. Get a bottle of Shave Secret [oil] (I paid $4 at Wal-Mart). Before shaving put one drop on your razor - I put it at one end of the cartridge and let it ease down the length of the blades. Eliminates the buildup.
And ... while you've got the bottle ... squeeze five drops onto the palm of the hand and massage that into your scalp before putting on the HeadSlick. Makes a huge improvement in the glide.

Welcome to the Forum, Homer!!
I'm a HeadBlade and headSlick user and have never had this problem. I shave in the shower and adjust the shower head to a stronger stream when shaving. The triples rinse right out easily.

I use Gillette Sensor blades and there is absolutely no clogging.
Use an old tooth brush when rinsing the blade between passes

Welcome to SBG Homer
As does valldo, I use on old brush (the little one that comes with hair clippers) when rinsing after each pass.

Using a brush to clean the blades...doesn't it have an effect on the sharpness of the edges? I would be afraid to take off the cutting edges with a brush.
To clean the blades basically, after the shave, I use my water pick. Works great and gets all things out of the last corner.
While shaving, mostly in the shower, I rinse the blade frequently directly under the shower head.

welcome to the frat homer,to stop the razor clogging try using sensor exell blades on the black adaptor, and when you have finished with the headslick, ditch it and try one of king of shaves shaving gells. first class lubrication with no clogging of the blades and no horrible white build up on your razor.

oh, I used to have this problem alot before with my gillette blue 3. the thing is that within weeks/months hair will stop grow that fast and you'll see the diffrence, which means that the blade will stop clogging. at least, that's my experience.

Just get the cheapest tooth brush you can find. I only take the brush to mine when it's clogged which doesn't happen often.

I shave in the shower and just run it under the shower stream to rinse it out. I don't have any real clogging issues.

I just rinse it under the shower head, or if I shave at the sink, I always have my sink full of hot water so I just give it a vigorous shake in the water, does the same thing
