Ok so there's a bunch of comments about using witch hazel after a shave. My question, since i'm planning on using it for the first time tomorrow, is how do you apply it. The bottle says with a cottonball but couldn't u just slap some on the dome? Or is it just one of those things that are best done in a tedious manner. Also, should I cover my whole dome or just the areas that look red and might be an ingrown folicle?

Hi Pratzie: 1st of all welcome 2 the sly fraternity. I use witch hazel after my shaves also. The best way to apply it is after a cold water rinse, towel dry face, and splash it in hands and directly on face and dome.

On a side note... place your witch hazel in the fridge and take out before U shave. The coolness from the fridge gives the witch hazel a more powerful effect. Also... the coolness closes your pores better to keep U smoooooother longer plus it feels good.

Okay. I think this thread has just motivated me to try witch hazel myself. One question, though, with a litt le backstorey.
I spend most of the year in a climate and work environment whee I'm constantly going back and forth between places that are chilled (walk-in refrigerators and freezers) and places that are warm to hot. Aloe Vera gel and the Nivea after shave balm both make my scalp feel nice and smooth in the cool areas but they start to feel greasy when I'm someplace warm. Will witch hazel help me avoid the greasy feeling?

Just like any after shave. Pour it into your cupped hand and slather it all over your head and face. I use Thayers Rose scented myself.

I will have to put my witch hazel in the fridge too...I'm just afraid that someone may get it confused with vinegar or something.

I use a witch hazel water I bought at a DIY-shop for cosmetics. It's the pure stuff, without any fragrances.
To apply it I put it into a spray bottle with a little pump. So it's easy to get it on the skin, hairspray for the bald dome....
