Just want to say a huge thank you for the support and advice on here, this site is amazing, so many cool dudes.
I currently shave with Wahl clippers, no guard, and I wanna try sly.
Pay day is in a couple weeks and want to treat myself to a razor/gel/post shave balm etc etc. Do the job properly.

I've never used a razor before...EVER.
Would love to know everyone's recommendations

I've heard good things about the mach3
It seems a reasonable price too

Also, shaving gel or shaving foam?

A Gilette Fusion Pro Glide, a good badger brush and shaving soap and a good aftershave.

hey cduster: the gillette fusion or schick hydro 5 are some good razors for head shaving and the most forgiving razors. bald guyz shaing gel, head slick shaving cream, and c.o. bigelow shaving cream are excellant.
please be sure to prep your dome by washing it with a good facial wash such as men's nivea face wash. u might want 2 research the "head shaving" section of the forum: "what razor you use" or "shaving cream or gel". this section has gr8 tips on razors and shaving cream/gel. good luck and keep us posted 2 your road 2 slyness.

I swear by my head blade. Easier to control, IMO, than a standard razor Fusion Pro Glide is great I use it on my face and head if I'm outta blades for the head blade. Either way a good lotion after makes all the difference!

I love my HeadBlade but I would not recpommend it for you since you've never used a razor. I recently tried a Schick Quattro disposable and I got an amzing shave with no irration and no nicks.
I use HeadSlick for shaving my head and face. Nivea makes a very nice Extreme After Shave balm. It has little if any scent..... that's nice because then you can still wear your favorite cologne/after shave.

I like Gillette Fusion or Shick Hydro 5. The Hydro 5 is a 1/3 cheaper than Fusion. I prefer Bald Guyz Gel or Bikini Zone Gel (it's cheaper than Men's Shave Gels). Shave Secret Oil is nice too

I would strongly recommend the wilkinsons sword/schick extremeIII disposable razor. It bends to curve with the contours of your head. Been using them for 15 years or more now. I've tried Fusions and various Schicks, but they don't have the flexibility in the blades of the EIII in my opinion. I shave 3-4 times a week, and can get a month out of one razor.

I use a Wilkinson Quattro. Shave face and head every day. New blade about every 10 days. I did try a Gillette Fusion but didn't find it as good as the Wilkinson, so I'm back with the Wilkinson which really is excellent. I use Nivea Sensitive Gel, and after all is done use Aloe Vera Gel - leaves a great shine on a really smooth head.

For me the best is also the cheapest. It's the Personna M5 Magnum. WalMart used to carry them but pulled them from the shelves a couple of years ago. I was heartbroken. Then one day I was walking around in Shopko with my wife and, as is my habit, I went into the shaving aisle to peruse their wares and.....VOILA! My old fave M5 was there! I bought out their supply of blades and also a pack of disposables for road trips. Every time I walk into a Shopko now I head straight for the shaving aisle and grab all they've got. I guess I'm hoarding but Armageddon is always just around the corner.
The M5 is a 5 blade system with a trimming blade. The way it is set up makes it just about cut-proof. I have literally never cut myself with this razor. As much as I hesitate to say it the M5 has pushed my HB back in line to at least 2nd place, that's how good it's been for me.
