• Hi, first i would like to say apologize for the grammar mistakes that im gonna make, my english is not so perfect, so, sorry. Im 22, and i have MPB, dont remember when it started, but i have been covering it up with my hairstyle, justin bieber like . Started to watch some videos about shaving ure head, and came across this site. Its awesome, so much support and experience here, really, well done guys. I will be going to the barber tomorow to clip my hair as much as she can, then i will shave it at my home. Have a few questions, after shaving it, do i use aftershave? It contains alcohol, will it iritate my head? And, is shaving ure head the same as shaving ure beard, face? Very very scared about doing it, but i got no choice.... Cant hide anymore, cant worry if wind will show the world im going bald. Everyone who knows me knows i hide my MPB with my hairstyle, and noone comments it. Maybe becouse they dont care, maybe something else, dont know... Hope it will be ok... Thanks for the informations guys.

• just go ahead and do it.  Main thing is go easy and not too much pressure in shaving.  I find shave face harder than head.  I now use aloe vera gel but did use after shave lotion. Skin will be more sensitive now until it adjusts.  You will indeed get comments.  Take them as compliments even if they aren't.   It is now you and take pride.

  I would recommend after you shave that you apply some Witch Hazel. WH will sooth your head and prevent rashes, or red spots.
  
  After the Witch Hazel put some Aloe Vera on which will help moisturize your head.
  
  Take it slow on your head at first since you are new to shaving and the skin up there is not used to being shaved yet as your face.

• to get the smoothest shave you need to go against the "grain" - back to forward or up on sides.  need to go slow as has been mentioned.  sometimes you need to go in different directions to get a  smooth feel.  Becomes second nature after a few times. Hardest part is in the back at nape of neck. just use care.

  as for me, shaving my head is way easier than face shaving.
  as for an aftershave, I use none, I just rinse with cold water.
  BTW: go ahead and shave it, shop hiding, be free.

• This site has many tips on shaving, so have a look around.  My advice since you are just starting is: 1) buzz down, 2) wet the stubble that remains and apply a good shaving cream or gel, 3) using a new razor blade, shave with the grain of your hair (back to front, top to bottom) with only light pressure, 4) rinse the blade regularly, 5) rinse your head with warm water to remove any remaining cream, 6) rinse again with cold water to close the pores, 7) apply a mild astingent like witch hazel (avoid after shave lotions with high alcohol contents - they sting and can also dry your skin), apply a moisturizer. (steps 7 and 8 can be commbined if you use Nivea Aftershave lotion).  You will get a closer shave by going against the grain, but take your time and get the hang of going with the grain first.  At first, the temples are the hardest to shave because the skin moves more, so be a little careful these.  Once you've shaved for a while, your scalp will toughen up and shaving will become very easy and natural.
  
  It's natural to be nervous, but don't worry too much about it.  My guess is that you and your friends will adjust quickly.  The sly look and feel is awesome - and incredibly addictive!

  The guys are giving you good feedback and the previous post summarizes it all well.  So I won't add to that.
  
  I do find that shaving the head is easier than shaving the face, but it may take you a little practice to get to that point.  The trial and error of that is part of the fun!
  
  Go for it, bro.  You are going to love the look, the feel, and the head rubs the ladies will want to give you.

• I did it ! I went to the barber this morning, sat down on that chair, and she asked me "what will it be?" I answerd, "as short as u can" and she did, felt weird, but not bad weird, unusual havent shaved my head, and im not going to, i have less than one milimeter of hair now, and its blonde, so it almost doesnt show that i have hair
  feels awesome, no more constantly correcting my hair! a big shock when i left the barber, its winter here, and it was COOOLD !!! never felt that low temperature on my head luckly i brought my hat, and for the first time, i put it on becouse my head was cold! first time im using a hat propperly went to get a cup off coffe to a local caffe where i always hang out, comments? ALL GOOD, MY FRIENDS LOVE IT, they say its good, that this hairstyle fits my head. older people that come to that caffe love it to, say im much preetier now
  no bad comments
  but most importantly, i feel good, feel relieved... im sorry for not doing this a long time ago, idiot, worrying about my residing hair line, how stupid was i....
  IT IS WHAT IT IS, I ACCEPTED IT !!!
  just one problem, feels coooold....was sitting in a caffe, and my head was cooold
  all good now. thanks u guys, u helped me a lot.
  and if anyone is thinking about doing the same, do it ! noone was more afraid then me, and it came out all good !

• Glad you went through with it and are happy with the change!  You'll notice the cold and the warmth of the sun and the wind, etc. A lot more now. Don't worry because you'll adjust to it. Keep a cap or hat around in cold weather. Use sunscreen in the summer.

• Enjoy the 1mm hair.  It almost looks bald, especially if you are blonde.
  
  However, the slickness of the shaved bald head is no comparison.  Take your time, but be sure to visit shaved bald for 30 days.  You won't want to go back to buzz. The shaved head feels so much nicer!

• Congratulations, changes.  You took the plunge and found out that people (most importantly, you like the look.  I started with very short buzz cuts and kept that for some time, but as other guys here have said, once you feel the smoothness of a totally shaved head it is tough to go back to the buzzcut.

• Congratulations Changes!  I do the same thing, just buzz my hair as short as I can with the clippers.  I have tried shaving with a razor (electric) about 3 or 4 times, and frankly I do not like the feel of a shaved-smooth head.  It feels rubbery or gummy to me, whereas a tiny bit of stubble feels like velvet.  But I have very fine, soft hair, so it may not be that way for everyone.  I guess what I am trying to say is that if you like the clipper-shave, as it is called, then by all means keep it!  Do not feel pressured to adopt a haircut that you are not comfortable with.
  
  I have found that after a fresh shave from long hair, such as you have, that the scalp is extra sensitive, and that the sensitivity will diminish over the next several days, until the scalp is only slightly more sensitive than the forehead.  But beware.  Letting the hair grow for even a couple weeks will cause the covered scalp to become sensitive again.  Hope this helps some, and enjoy your new haircut!
