Hey guys!
My name is Tom. I'm 21, I have MPB, and I've been sly since August. It's pretty cool to have this website as a place to relate to other sly guys. I'm the only guy I know personally who has gone smooth, so there's not a whole lot of dudes to relate to on baldness.
So.. I guess I'll tell a little bit about my bald story so you guys can get to know me a bit.
I'm a Junior college student now and I've been bald for a good amount of time. I used to have a head full of curly brown hair that everybody recognized and all the ladies loved to touch. It was easily a part of my identity and I liked it a lot. I started thinning very rapidly going into the second semester of my Freshman year of college. I suddenly couldn't grow a decent head of curls any more. I started buzzing it short, hoping people wouldn't notice. It was very rough to accept, especially because of that sudden onset. By the end of sophomore year, I started get a bald spot to complement my receding hair-line. It was at that point, at the end of last Summer, that I decided I needed change.
I had tried growing it out, but that didn't work. It looked bad. I felt trapped. And everyone I talked to thought Sly was a NO GO! It was hard to face that resistance. But I followed my gut. I wanted something clean, something new, and something that would show an outward display of confidence. I wanted to wear my MPB on my sleeves, not hide it. Hiding felt wrong, totally unsatisfying, and psychologically damaging.
It was 11:45pm on a random week night. I had read through forum after forum on this site and other sites looking for some kind of support or spring board to do what I had to do. Somehow I found the courage and I grabbed those horse-clippers (the only clippers we had) and took it all off and shaved it smooth. I haven't looked back since.
Going bald can be a shocking, emotional, and confusing experience for the young man. Losing your mane isn't easy. It's scary feel that vulnerable. Despite that, it's an opportunity for growth, to dig deep and overcome a weakness in yourself. My little brother helped me realize the importance of inner strength and how it not only empowers you, but the others around you as well. Displaying your baldness is a way of displaying your strength. Its a way to let those around you know that this small loss isn't something you will hide from. This "weakness" isn't something to cover in shame. You wear it on your sleeves and display it to everyone. People instinctively read this confidence. They understand and appreciate it.
And after all, hair is such a small thing to lose.
^^^ Hey guys! Thanks for the great support! I agree, I need a capless picture. I'm gonna put one up soon!

Awesome post. I was in the same position as you, shaved it when I was 20 at the first signs of MPB. That's quite a story, I really like your attitude. Welcome to to club.

Great post, Tom, and welcome to SBG. I'm a college student myself, and I, too, recently took the plunge into the sly fraternity. It has been a welcomed change in my life, and I don't plan to ever grow my hair back again. You are right that people around those with shaved heads take notice and appreciate the confidence. Before I shaved my head, less people talked to me and complimented my looks. Now that I've shaved my head for 32 days, people everywhere notice my confidence and self-security. I honestly feel more popular and more appreciated now that I shaved my head.
It's refreshing to see another younger face in the crowd here. Stick around, please.

I agree....a picture of your dome in all it's glory is in order!
But I should say that while my MPB came later in life, I admire your attitude. If I had MPB in my early 20's, when sly wasn't cool, I don't know if I could have done it! But welcome to the site!
