How Long Do Your Blades Last
« on: February 25, 2012, 07:44:08 AM »
I know this may be different for everyone but I'm interested to know how long your blades last.

I'm new to shaving my head (today's day 5) and it seems to me my current blade is not shaving as well as it did when I started.

I use Gillette Mach 3 blades. Any thoughts ideas as to how long you shave with the same blade before replacing it. Do you have any special washing/storage routines for your blades.

Is about a week normal for a blade or should they last longer.

Thanks everyone.

I love being bald. Why did I wait so long to start shaving my head?

There was a post on here about how to refresh your blades with a youtube video link.

Basically you rub your razor along some denim. I had never heard of that but tried it and it really does work. I'm guessing what it does is clean off any stubble that has accumulated on the blades.

I'm getting about 3 weeks on my blades.

I have used Gillette Fusion 5 plate cartridges mostly.  I change to Magnum M5 after visiting this site.   I change cartridges once a week - always on a Sunday morning so I don't forget.  This has worked fine for me.

Thanks for the input. I'll try "sharpening" the blades on my jeans, but changing to a new blade once a week makes sense. Having a specific day (Sunday or Monday) will help keep up a set routine.
