I really don't like how my head feels after using it. I'm not putting any pressure on the blade at all and it still cut my head today. I think I would be more comfortable with a Gillette Fusion or something for my head. Should I keep trying to get used to the HeadBlade? I realize it's definitely not for everyone.

My suggestion is - put it away NOW. get a regular multitrac, I liked the Extreme 3 when a newbie, and get used to the process with that. then when your confidence builds give the HB another shot. I have never mastered it but plentyof guys swear by them. The one thing I know is if you keep usingit with lousy results at this stage you kill any chance you have of ever using it successfully.

Thanks for the quick reply. I want to buy razors tomorrow so I might just buy more Fusion razors since that's what I use on my face.

Hi,
I vote for the Gillette Fusion. I use a HeadBlade, but use the Fusion a couple times per week. It should give you some confidence and then in a few months you can try the HeadBlade again. -

Fusion is pretty easy, as is the Schick Hydro 5. I haven't ever gotten any serious slices or cuts with either one.

Also, could the shaving cream have a bigger affect than I think? I use Nivea Sensitive Skin Shave Gel on both my face and my head. I haven't cut my face shaving in over a year, so I doubt it's the cream, in all likelihood. Has to be the HeadBlade. It was probably a bad idea to use a HeadBlade for my first time being a head shaver.

I have thought about using a shaving brush with some of those old-fashioned shaving creams that come in tubs. I'm not sure if it would be worth the price if it wouldn't give me a drastically more comfortable shave, though.

Before you put the big bucks into a brush, try one of the "cheapo's" at Wal-Mart, about $7--and use it with some Headslick--no work to make up the lather just put some on the brush, less than a teaspoon, and apply it to a wet scalp and work up the lather right there on the dome. -

WHOA NOW!
I'm not paid by Headblade (though I should be), but it is an awesome razor for shaving the dome. That being said, there are clearly some rules / understandings that should be noted:
1. Applying pressure - I still use a Headblade Classic razor (not the Sport version with the wheels on the back), and it's a golden rule that you DO NOT apply pressure on the front (razor) end of the headblade. Just treat it like a comb and "comb your head" as if you had a full head of hair.
2. Back of the Headblade - Regardless if you have the Sport version (wheels) or the Classic version (plastic nub) , keep the back of the Headblade in contact with your scalp. As long as you keep the back end of the headblade (wheels or nub) in contact with your scalp, it's actually a very effective way to keep your dome smooth without cutting your dome.

I'm using the Hydro 5, but my current blade seems to be dull from the get-go. They usually seem to shave well the first fe days, but this blade seem dull. I'm not cutting myself, but it takes many more passes to get it smooth. Too cheap to not use the blade a few days. Hope the next blade is more normal. Do you find that some blades just are not as sharp as others or don't last as long (within the same model/brand). -

I've been using head slick. About a chick pea worth per day. That seems to make enough lather for my entire head. A teaspoon would make a LOT of lather! -

The HB is really awkward to me. I am ambidextrous when it comes to playing the piano but not when it comes to shaving my head and you need to be with the HB. I only gave it one try and decided it wasn't for me. Everyone is different so if you have been using it without good results, it's time to try something else.

I have been reading reviews over the past half hour on both products, and it seems like it would be an amazing 1-2 punch for a closer shave with less irritation on both the face and head. It'll cost me about $30, but apparently the cream lasts for over a year if you use the brush, and the brushes are supposed to last for years also. Steep initial investment, saving money over time is the vibe I'm getting, and I like it. Seriously thinking about buying both. What do you say, sly nation?
