Question for the shower shavers in the gang....
« on: January 29, 2012, 01:34:16 PM »
Seems as if I go through a "fog free" mirror in about 3 or 4 months..surface no longer repels steam etc.   My current one is about due to be replaced and since it is already trash I'm considering some experimentation.   WD40 (God's grestest gift to mankind though duct tape migh give it a run) has been claimed to be a fog free coating for mirrors.  Anyone have any experience, good or bad, with it for such?

I'll likely give it a shot and post my results though I'm curious what others have experienced.

I've heard that rubbing shaving cream into a mirror keeps it from fogging up. I've bever tried it, though.

The company that makes Rain-X makes a product called Fog-X which is supposed to prevent moisture from accumulating on the inside of windows.  Don't know if it works, but I saw it at Target last fall.

Shaving cream does NOT work. WD 40 does but you have to be careful you don't get any behind the mirror becasue it is a solvent and will dissolve the glue that holds the mirror to the frame.

When mine starts to fog, I give it a spray of the generic "Clean Shower" from Walmart.  Mine is several years old, and this seems to do the trick, although for a short time only.

I have a mirror from Bed Bath and Beyond that works really well.  I've had it for nearly a year now.  I'll try to see which one it is.

Fog-X DOES seem to work on the windows of your car.  It does help with the level of moisture that fogs up there.  I tried it on the large bathroom mirror. Seems like the moisture from the steam of the shower is more than Fog-X was intended to prevent.  It did not seem to work in the shower, but I don't think that was the intention of the product.

I had a cheapy fogless mirror for a little over a year.  Not only don't they keep their anti-fog property, but the surface is very wavy.  I received one of these for a gift:

It is incredible, however it stays fog free because you must fill the resevoir on the mirror housing with hot water before every use.  It is excellent.   O0

I have a Shower Tek fogless mirror.  It absolutely works and I've had it for several years.  The mirror is just as good as the day i brought it home.  It hooks up to the shower head and and you can regulate how much water you allow to run behind the mirror.  It's been long enough since I bought it that I don't remember where although I see Amazon has them.  If you want one that works, get one of these!  O0

I've never had luck with them. Mine usually stay fog free until they get wet.

I never use a mirror.  I just go by the feel method.  I do usually get my neck and cheeks and ear area done by the sink.  But after doing that, I jump in the shower and shave by feel and I usually do a good job of it!

I shave in the shower, no mirror, no issues. I shave everything from shoulder up except my eyebrows completely by feel and i honestly tend to get a better shave that way. Who'd thunk it. Haha

Shaving foam on my bathroom mirror works very well :( shaving gel doesn't work, it has to be foam. Never heard of Fog X. I've heard of Razor X, but not Fog X  :)
