I used to do 3, but I switched to 2 about a year ago. My old routine involved filling the sink up before I stepped in the shower so that my brush and mug could get hot, but then one day I realized that I could get them just as hot by letting the water overflow the mug after I get out of the shower.

If i am doing it at the sink, it's either 1 or 2. 3 requires clean up of the sink afterward to get all the stubs to go down the drain! I was a sink-man for along time, until i started in the shower.

I agree, #1 wastes water (I try to convince my wife of that for brushing teeth)
I find #3 requires more clean up afterwards

I've been shaving head for a week, and I've used 2 and 3. I've never thought of sanitation as an issue, as I've shaved my face using the #3 style for my entire shaving life and never had an issue *knock on wood*...

Option 1, because 3 is not sanitary.
Option 3.
Though it has occurred to me, it might be cleaner to rinse the blades with running hot water as I go along.

#3, never had any problem with shaving this way for almost thirty years. Shave mostly in the shower now, but when at sink, it's still #3.

number 3, how is it unsanitary? It's just the same stuff you took off sitting in the water until you rinse.

Do my headshaving and most of my face shaving in the shower, but it's #2 when shaping up the face at the sink.

I used to do a combination of 1 and 2 until about 2 days ago when I tried being a shower-shaver for the first time and I must admit, it's much easier/faster/smoother in the shower! I still do my face at the sink though!
