de N8MMS ... downloaded the test pool at the beginning of the summer, but never opened the file :-( ... sold my equipment 12 years ago and haven't done much (besides renew the license) since.

Dont mean to sound like a rookie here, But can someone explain what a HAM radio is and why it involves a license?
The only HAM that I am familiar with is the Christmas ham

Greetings fellow hams!!! N7MYW here.Licensed since 1982,i used to be an HF nut.CW and packet as well.But the HF days are long gone for me.Lost that fever of DX.What with the internet,etc.
Still use VHF/UHF/Micro's sometimes.Main band ins 220.Use my Kenwood F6A the most.And still own my first ht's from the mid 80's!! Icom 02AT and 4AT.

Not a rookie, just the majority don't know what Ham Radio is. More are aware now after the major hurricanes that Amateur Radio is a very effective to provide communications during disasters as well as being a hobby for 3 million people world wide. Visit this link to learn more:

Off frequency
I have tried the F6A and the satellites/space station but never been close enough for a decent pass.Someday.
