Hi,
I have been a lurker for a while, and decided to post, after having a very interesting HAIR experience.
I have been shaving my head for about 18 years now, when I first shaved, I had a pretty FULL head of hair, and kept it shaved, for the most part full-time. I did grow some hair back, once and a while.. for job interviews, family visits, etc.
I never got to experience what a number of you have, the ... OMG, I am losing my hair....receding hairline, hair on the pillow thing.
For the past ten years, the daily shave was a morning, in the shower ritual. Recently, I decided to stop shaving, dunno, got tired, wanted to see how much hair I had left. Well, to my surprise... not much!
My crown was GONE, along with my hairline... I was completely MPB, and to me, it was fascinating.
I grew my "hair" out for about two months, just to see the reactions of people.
It did make me look older, and I think, less "ominous". The shaved-head, big beard look does scare some.
I think I was treated differently, someone people thought I was homeless, funny in stores, until I took out the Platinum card.
I recently shaved it again, can't bring myself to JUST shave the ring, since I enjoy feeling the razor go across my head (ya, waste of blades and soap).
So herein lies my question...
If it is OK to embrace one's baldness, and shave your head... should it not be OK to also embrace one's baldness, and just go out into the world and be bald?
Isn't an MPB ring a hairstyle, just the same as a shaved head, buzz cut or mohawk?
And... if it is OK for me to decide to shave my head completely bald, should it also not be OK for me not to?
It is cool that society is OK with me shaving off my thinning (OK, MOSTLY GONE) locks, but why is it NOT OK for me to accept my baldness, and just be bald?
Thanks guys,
YOU ROCK!!!!

IMO it is perfectly OK to embrace the way things are. It is, after all, your head. The reason I (personally) get on a soapbox in here is when a man decides to shave his head and gets a load of crap from other people and decides against autonomy in favor of not rocking the boat rather than just quoting from the Gospel of "Go F**k Yourself".
The important thing to remember is that it's just a haircut. Other people may panic when they see it and I get a real kick out of that. But I do it because it's what I want to do. My head, my hair, my razor.....if you don't like it I have some Gospel preachin' to do.
Your head, your hair brother. Do what YOU like!

No, it's not OK. Go away.

Just kidding, of course. Do whatever makes you happy; it's your head. Welcome.

What a nice way to call it "MPB RING" - - -I call it a "horseshoe" and or "toilet seat" or nicely called " MY FRINGE" I grew a " toilet seat" this week because I got lazy - - - - and it is fun to see how much hair I have left - -nothing on the dome for me and white hair on the fringe - - - -

I wouldn't do it--but it's your head not mine--have at it.

I personally think that a well-trimmed "ring" is perfectly ok, especially if it's perfectly ok with you.
For me, it must be well-trimmed though -- as in buzzed to, at most, a #1. And some winters, I'll wear mine that way (though for the past two winters, and probably this one, I'll sly it out). Anything longer than a #1 starts looking too bozo for my tastes.
But what's most important, is how it feels to you.

Welcome. Whatever you like is what is right. I think some guys look good with the fringe as long as it's kept neat and some don't.

Welcome and enjoy.
I agree with most of the others. It's your head so you should wesr what YOU are comfortable with. I perfer the shaved look and once in a while the #1 max.

Do what makes you comfortable and makes you feel good. We're an accepting lot. Some of us prefer a super smooth dome, others like a little growth. Doesn't matter because we all enjoy the feeling it gives us.

The wonderful thing about freedom is that you can decide to choose whatever makes you comfortable.....shaved or bald....all the best.

that is so very true kalbo and hair styles have been a way to show your freedom and that you are an individual for many centuries.
