Ok well if Im honest, if someone were to say to me 'Im a liberal' or 'Im a conservative', then that goes right over my head and I would have no idea what they're trying to say.Anyway, whether its 'liberal' or 'conservative' or 'transsexual' or 'agnostic' or whatever, I dont believe in labels because I think every person has viewpoints that cross boundaries, so thats probably why I dont know what those terms actually mean.Thank you all for explaining it to me though
Progressives believe the government should play a role in making society better and more equal.
The best I can understand is as follows:Liberal (or progressive) panders to that part of the voting bloc that tends to lean more toward social and fiscal equality. They also speak at length about saving Mother Earth from the ravages of humanity, using really expensive light bulbs, and driving electric cars.Conservatives pander to the segment of voters that tends to leans more toward removal of regulations so that bsuinesses can grow and hire more out of work Americans, lower taxes, and smaller government. That being said, when all the pandering is over at the conclusion of the campaign/election cycle they all go back to pandering to lobbyists who pad their wallets and off-shore bank accounts. *whoosh*Progressive is a term those on the political left have gone back to using now that liberal has a negative connotation among many moderate or independent voters or the public in general*whoosh*Im pleased you all know what you're talking about.
Progressives as a rule advocate reform, transparency and change from regressive and reactionary elitist governing. Progressives demand justice and equality for all citizens, fairness for workers, wage and hour laws and are against the exploitation of child labor. They are protective of our civil liberties and protections expressed in the Bill of Rights. Liberties like the rights to privacy, of speech, of movement and freedom from search and from a mono-theist state. Some feel that security and health care for our children and the aged is a right. Also that our nation should have a health care system like Japan, Taiwan, Iceland or even Cuba. Progressives will speak out for those voiceless among us. They speak out against those who use fear, violence and hate as their propaganda tools. They see through the lies of corporate controlled regressives that lead us into invasions for their profits at the cost of the lives of our military and those of innocent civilians and trillions in tax money. Where the regressives give free rides and make laws favoring the wealthy elite and multi-national corporations, Progressives are considerate of the needs of the seniors, children, poor, middle class and the workers.
