Hey Doug what are your thoughts so far? I like it. So far I love the no ads all over the right panel. But I'm sure at some point that will change.
I like it. No ads or no games is a nice change. There aren't too many people on it now, but I'm sure that will change with time.
I really like the circles feature!

Am I the only one on here that doesn't have any interest in sites like facebook or this new comer google has rolled out?
Nope, not at all. I just don't understand the mindset of putting any part of my life out there in the fashion of some perpetual and ongoing announcement--sort of like those awful "newsy" letters some people put in their holiday and Christmas cards. Don't want to read it either.

That element of social media (the constant personal updates) is annoying. At the same time though, social media is incredible for what is allows in terms of making connections and information exchange. During the crisis in Cote d'Ivoire earlier this year I was able to get updates and eventually help my friends get supplies all through facebook and twitter. I put the plea out there on social media and got a bunch of responses. In addition to helping my friends and finding reliable info re: the on the ground situation, I also ended up making new friends with people on twitter and facebook (1 of these has now become a friend in real life!!) who were also interested in Cote d'Ivoire and West Africa more generally. It took me a while to see its potential, but now that I regularly collaborate with people online and I have met a handful of people in real life, I see the power in it.

Google+ has removed the invite-only aspect of their site. Come on it, the water's warm....

It is similar to FB but different, in good ways IMO. The biggest difference is circles. Circles are groups of friend that you set up. When you post a status, you can share with however many circles you want. You can also control the ability to comment and share on your posts.
In a nutshell, I'd say that's its FB without all the bloated needs of ads and such AND better control/privacy settings.

Thanks, but its not my cup of tea. I tried Facebook and hated every second of it, and I doubt I'd feel any different about G+. If I want my friends to know when I scratch my backside, I can email them or call them

I'm sure FB (and G+) has its/their uses, but its just not for me.

Thanks Doug, I'm not on Facebook very often. This (Google+) does sound like you have more control over who see's what. I may check it out.
