Been a lurker and decided to join the forum. I am from Northern MN and have had a fairly short haircut for the last 20 years. It was either a flat top or a military buzz cut, so going sly won't be that big of a leap.
I was trying to work up the courage to shave off the rest of my hair and came upon this site a few days ago. It made me decide to give it a shot. So for now I wanted to say thanks for giving me the courage. I went out and bought some of the recommended items on Tuesday and planned on shaving it Wed after work. Well, work brought a day in the sun with no hat or sun block, so I now have a sunburned head. My thought is to wait until the sunburn goes down to shave, to keep the irritation down. I got my hair cut by my barber on Tuesday and he straight razored the sides, so it is pretty short already. Now I just need to clip the top down to a more manageble level and shave it off.
Should I wait for the sunburn to subside before I shave this, or just do it tonight while wathcing the NCAA Frozen Four Hockey Tournament?
Thanks in advance for all of the advice.
Erik

Welcome Erik! Definitely wait until the sunburn has healed or that first shave will not be a pleasure as it should be.

Thanks, Kind of what I thought. I would like to do it while I have the courage though

I also noticed that I posted this in the Beginners section instead of introductions. My bad, if it needs to be moved, so be it.

Welcome!
It's not fair that you have coverage of the Frozen Four and I don't!!
Definitely wait until the sunburn is fully healed and give it an extra day or 2 at that. It's not uncommon to have a bit of dry scalp when first shaving it and you definitely don;t want that in addition to a sunburn.
Also given that you've burned the melon already MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD SUNBLOCK ON HAND.

It doesn't hurt that the WCHA is well represented. It is on ESPN2 here. Did you have coverage 2 weekends ago of the sweet 16 in Bridgeport CT?
I think that having no hair will help with the sunburn. Right now I have little enough hair that the sun still gets to my scalp, but can't really get sun tan lotion on my head without my hair looking greasy.

Hi and welcome.
I've found that no hair means better use of sunblock for head, face and neck.

Welcome Erik! Wait for the sunburn to subside and then go for it. I, also used to wear a flattop, awesome cut but getting expensive and finding a barber that can cut a decent one is hard to do these days. Take the leap to Sly and shave it for 30 days, if you're like me, you won't regret it. I think I'm obsessed! Post up a before and after pic. Dave

In my barber shop only one guy left will weild a straight razor. And 16 bucks plus tip twice a month is getting spendy.
My wife just gave birth this morning to our second child and the sunburn is subsiding. I may let my 4 year old help me with the clipping part of going sly tonight after the NCAA Championship game. I can do it in honor of the birth of my daughter and hopefully the UMD Bulldogs winning the National Championship
