21 Years old, Just joined the forum, preparing for the inevitable!

Hi, I just joined the forum. I still have my hair (or what's left). My hair has been getting progressively thinner, in a "wispier" sort of way. The hair itself is not as thick anymore. Now at 21, I find that it looks okay when I step out of the shower and dry it, and then when I start walking around I feel like a toupee comic sketch, with my hair flying everywhere and stuff. I've always been a guy with bangs, because I've ALWAYS had a high hairline that I disliked. So my friend tells me she's sure my hair line is receding.
I think I'm still in denial. but looking at older pictures from a few years ago, it's obvious my hair is thinner or SOMETHING.
And I know I'd rather not go with horse-shoe hair. I don't want to be that guy that pathetically holds onto the hair he has left in the back of his head. I'm thinking of joining the ranks. Maybe not full shave, maybe just a buzzcut, but it's always something I have been slightly interested in and wasn't sure if I would look good with it. I'm talking to my barber next time I go. It's just a leap for me, always being a long haired kid.
I'm half excited, half very nervous. I always knew that I'd have hair troubles, because every man in both sides of my family has gone through the same thing. But they've all gone horse-shoe/star-trek doctor hairdo. I don't think I can do that. Not in this day and age.
Anyway, I look forward to being active on this website, and until I leap that chasm, I have plenty to offer with face shaving information!

The buzz cut is a good idea.
Even when I had hair back in the last Ice Age, it was wispy and fine and never looked good in my mind. When I went for the buzz cut, I suddenly stopped worrying about it at all. I did the buzz for two decades and was completely happy with my hair before deciding to go completely sly.
If your hair is a distraction, you might find that a buzz sets your mind at ease as it did for me. Then you can decide when/if you want to shave it completely or not.

It doesn't sound to me that you're in denial at all. You'll know what to do when the time comes.

Welcome to the Sly Side of Life, BrassPower...
Glad you found us.
Here you'll find lots of great info here on shaving products, the best razors to get the job done, techniques, tips, suggestions advice, etc, and just an all around great group of bald guys (BBC guys too)!! Many SBG members in your age group, as well!!
Check out the different categories on the main forum page. Lots of great reading there also!
When you're ready to "do the deed", and give SLY a TRY, remember NOT to rush your headshave. Take your time and
GO SLOW !! Rushing will only lead to nicks, cuts, slicing and dicing - and NO ONE wants to see that happen!!
When it is done properly, shaving your head can (and should) become a very enjoyable experience - much different than shaving your face!
You may not fully understand what I mean by that statement at this time, but if you decide to maintain the sly look, you will know soon enough!!
Once again, WELCOME to SBG!!
I GUARANTEE you're gonna' like it here!!
Post up a pic when you can!!

Welcome Brasspower. It sounds like you're headed in the right direction with taking it down to a buzz. I say you should keep it for a while, try different lengths while you still can.
The main thing is you're aware of it, and plan on doing what feels right for you when the time comes.
The decision to take control is usually the toughest part for most guys, so I would say you have a good outlook going forward.
There's really no reason for a man to hold on to a fringe or horseshoe these days, unless he really wants to.
Enjoy the forum, and try that buzz!

Took my about 3-4 months here before I got the gonads to take it away. The minute I did I had the biggest smile on my face you can imagine. It's been over 2 years now and I hardly miss a day with the razor.
Welcome.

Welcome! The buzz cut would be a good start for you, because you already know what you don't want, which is very smart!

I would have been devastated to be losing hair at 21 and probably would at my current age. I am currently bald by choice and every day I look in the mirror I like it more. Yes, it will be a shock at first but give it time, at least 30 days. I wish you the best and look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome To SBG!
I know how you feel as your hair is thinner at 21--which would be devastating to me. I start having receding hairline when I was 22 or 23 & my insecurities kicked in where I would wear hats to cover it. Now I just wear my baldness with pride as I def. don't want the horse shoe look

Post a pic of you when you buzz cut it to see how it looks and good luck man!
