Another Hair Transplant mistake case help
« on: August 04, 2010, 08:02:57 PM »
Hi there

First time poster.

I am nearly 33 years old and have been slowly receeding and thinning for the past four or five years. In my hast early on with the confusion and depression I had a small procedure done which involved 650 grafts which has a scar now I estimate about 7-8 cm in the donor area. I will try Bio Oil to lessen the effect however I have spoken to one of the American Doctors (I am from New Zealand) about shaving it to a buzz 2 or 1 and he thinks if anything 3cm and no lower as it will be obvious the grafts to the temples I had placed.

I would like some advice on anyone else in my position as to what they did and what they looked like when shaving or buzzing down whether they looked like freaks

I think this is an amazing forum also as alot of the hair loss forums are geared around promotion of the Coalition Hair Doctors and alot of insecure kids who like to cry over hair loss and the desperation of finding a solution and often will be very very negative and totally forget about the whole purpose of these support forums is to create a positive feeling and one that allows everyone to move on with their lives

If that's all you have is the one scar, you're a lot better off than me.  I had a total of 3 procedures, not sure how many grafts.  But I've got 2 long scars across the back, a third at a rear corner, and another long one that runs up the right side to above my ear!
But what pisses me off is, when I compare the size and length of the scars to the number of actual plugs I received, I wonder where the rest of them are?  It hardly appears to be a 1:1 ratio.
Just another reason to avoid transplants.

I wouldn't' worry about it too much though. I lost count of how many comments I got either saying I looked like a a baddass (Okay, not the image I was shooting for but I'll take it  ;)) or that "chicks dig scars man, you look like a baddass!".
O' course, all those latter comments came from guys.
I haven't had a chick yet come up to me and touch my head and go, "Ooooh, sexay! -scarrage!)  LOL.

Maybe they have a point, or maybe not.. but.. it still beats walking around with a head full of powder (Toppik) and avoiding rain and water like it's Sulphuric acid or something.
Contrast is the worst thing for you though- scars next to stubble will stand out much more than scars alongside skin.  I do as close a shave as possible, daily.. or more.
Hair today.. gone tomorrow!  (sorry)

You might try a dermatoligost who has a fraxel laser. I had that done to my HT donor scars and they smoothed out somewhat but didnt shrink and there is still a discoloration and contrast with the surrounding skin that makes them obvious when I shave down totally. But what is new is the idea of micro-tatooing little dots into the scars to resemble the stubble of hair shaved down. Search on hair replication and here is the US there is an artisit who specializes in doing this into HT scars. It is called Artistry Concepts. My plan is to try the laser once more (you need multiple sessions) and then go to FLorida for this process. There is a UK company doing this also but the quality of their work is inferior and the inks they use change colors and fade over time. Maybe there is a local tatoo artist in NZ who has done this ?

I did see that Artistry concept place and the results look so good. But I guess you will always have that stubble look so you gotta be sure you want that right... the Sly look is clean and bold

I have been keeping in my hair loss and the urge to buzz it off to say to the world look at me. Today I made a huge step in organising my mate (who has been trying to help me get out of the depression stage) so I will tell him about my problems. I am nearly moving into the acceptance stage

I want to thank all you guys for being here online I see so many happy strong guys and thats my goal
