I'm thinking of taking the plunge and shaving everything off. Can anyone suggest a shopping list of things that I might need (ie. type of blade, moisturizer, anything for a first time shaver, etc...)
Mauricio, congrats man. it sounds like you're ready to go with the shave. Freedom awaits you!.
All you'll really need is a good razor with a fresh blade, some shaving gel, and you can get to it.
I used a Mach III and some Edge gel for my first shave, coming up on three years next month, and it was just fine.
Afterward, when you allow your scalp to get used to shaving, you can start experimenting with different razors and blade combo's. It's a real ritual and I think you'll enjoy it.
Good luck, go slow and easy, and all will be well. Let us know how it turns out.
I'm using a Mach 3 with gilette shaving creame does the job great.
headblade
proglide to touch up around the ears
king of shaves shave gel
st ive apricot scrub
gillete after shave gel
headlube to moisturize
Any thoughts on the Gillette Fusion?
You can use your face shaving equipment.
I too went out and got ready a couple of weeks before "doing the deed." But, when it came down to the day, I stuck with what I knew, my Fusion and the gel I had. I used some after shave balm and also the anti-acne stuff I've used on my face since I've been in puberty insofar as acne is concerned for more years than I care to count.
So use what you're familiar with, then try anything else you might fancy. It's enough to learn how to use the tools you know on the sphere you're learning about. Once you're familiar with your dome, try everything once, well maybe not stuff like Nair, etc, that's supposed to be really bad.
Only caution, you will find yourself in front of the shaving supplies at every store selling the stuff. It just happens, to all of us I think. And I've got drawers, that's right plural, drawers of shaving stuff I've bought, tried and found just weren't for my dome, including the Headblade, but that Headslick--I've never used anything else at home since I started. Only on the road, I use a cake of shaving soap.
Enjoy, just make sure you have a drawer ready for the stuff you try and don't know what to do with.
I would wait on using the headblade. I would use a regular razor. The 2 I would recommend for starting out would be the shick hydro 5 is excellent or the persona m5 htough that has a little more drag, it will get you extremely smooth.
I agree with Saintc, go with what you know. Buzz it down to nothing. Take a good hot shower. Wouldn't hurt to put some hair conditioner on to soften up your hair. Then grab your trusty razor with a new cartridge and some gel and go to work! Welcome to the club!

I use the Headblade now, but I shaved for years with a regular stick razor (Mach3 is my favorite, but the M5 is my favorite new razor)
Oh man, you're entering a world of pain. When I first started shaving the dome about 10 or so years ago all I had was my Sensor and a can of Edge gel. I was perfectly happy with that until I came here. First it was the HeadBlade Classic, then the Sport, now it's the Ghost. I have, at last count, 31 different shave creams/gels most of which I have given up on but not discarded because.....you never know. I have 2 M5s and enough blades to win a gang fight. I have pre-shaves, pre-scrubs, post scrubs, after shaves, Jesus God Almighty I should open my own store.
When my wife and I go garage saling I am always on the lookout for somebody's old gear and I spend money like a drunken sailor in a Bangkok cathouse.
But my scraped dome sure does look good.
The one thing that I recommend is styptic pencils.
