I've been toying with the idea of shaving for some time now. I've been thinning a bit over the years and this summer is finally the time to try out the totally shaved look.
Today I got my final haircut. I'm in New York next week for a conference for work and so didn't want to do anything drastic before then. Today counts as day "negative 8". Next Saturday will be Shave Day!!
I've been doing tons of reading and stumbled upon you Sly Guys when Google lead me to a post about guys worried about their head shape (which I am a bit).
So for now, Hi! Will continue lurking for a bit, but hopefully will post pics next weekend!

So, into the Big Apple w/ a dying mop, you could be leaving w/ a shiny "apple" of your own.

You're going to like this, we promise--oh, and while you're in the City you will definitely see lots and lots of smooth, sly scalps, you may not wait 8 days to join the crowd, but let's see.

So after all this reading I've done here today, I'm definitely itching to shave sooner than later. However, I'm going to need some time to get used to it. Talking to prospects on a trade show floor and running to customer meetings isn't the time to try the old confidence level!
But I'm giddy like a kid the week before Christmas

Yeah, that itch is unbearable. I was thinking you'd might give in after the first day at the meeting when you see a large number of sly guys and realize--you only stand out because of the dying mop

Seriously, this is about feeling good about yourself, and when it feels right it will come off and you will feel great.

It is possible it will feel right in the City--and of course there are barbers around with clippers to help there too.

Hey Doc Ed! Glad you found us. The wait is going to be agony. But once behind you, you will kick yourself for waiting so long.

Welcome Doc. Agree with Saint and others -- why wait? A big part of my job is sales and interacting face-to-face with customers. The moment I shaved my head my confidence level skyrocketed. My only regret was that I didn't do it sooner. I think we all believe that it will be a shock to those around us when we shave - when the reality is that it'll be a non-event. So why not shave and stand out a bit in the crowd?

I can understand not wanting to try out a new look right before the conference, but if you can, I strongly suggest that you shave off the fringe before you leave New York -- perhaps after the conference or at the tail end of it after you've given your presentation? It's a lot easier to do it when you're around a bunch of strangers who have no pre-conceived notions of what you're supposed to look like. It kind of gives the confidence a boost if you can live with the look for a day or two before facing the folks back home.

Hello there Ed, I am going to agree with the guys on just getting it done. What better place to have your first shave than good ole NY?, can you tell I'm from there, lol.
You should be seeing plenty of sly guys in the city, if that's where you're staying.
I think you will see a big change in your confidence level after you see how it looks and feels, especially if you have a combover or hairpiece. Listen to pdxtodd, he knows from experience.
Welcome to SBG's, and just get it done!
