Your fear is understandable. I think a majority of the guys here (including myself) had a hard time finally taking the plunge and shaving it off. What I recommend you do (this is what I did) is take it down to a #2 or #3, then see how that looks. then slowly progress downwards eventually to guard #0, than shave it off.
This will not only help you adjust to the look but also the others around you to adjust to the look. OR you can do what some of the more bold members did and just shave it all of and keep it for at least thirty days and see how you feel about the look.

Congrats on your decision!

Give yourself some time to adjust to your new look. As for the others - they'll come around. Don't let comments influence you. It's your choice. Nothing else matters.

Famicon, congrats on taking the first big step of mental freedom; getting rid of your mental prison. Your short cut is a great step!

As you get used to the shorter hair, you will probably find the desire to go the sly route. My only advise is to follow your heart and go for it! You have nothing to lose! Most people who see us balding types with short/buzzed look and then shaved don't notice the difference.

True; especially guys don't notice, as my experience has shown me.

The other side of that (which can be a huge (HUGE!!!) benefit; especially for a younger guy) women will start to flock to you.

That's one I can't explain. You'll just have to experience it and report back.

Congrats on taking a step towards happiness. As long as you like it.....and your self esteem grows...others opinions will seem trivial. Then you can take it bald and wonder what you were waiting for to begin with!! The happier you are with yourself....the more people will come to accept your new look.

This is only my 3rd post and have been SLY for a few days, but I am the happiest man on earth since my DECISION!! I was worried about OTHER people---not myself. Man, what a truly freeing experience. I went for it all the way the first time--something I knew I wanted to do, but was afraid. I am so happy I did. Co-workers and family love it....I have noticed one major difference---I was worried and no one else was! People also look me in the eye when we speak instead of looking at the top of my head. I have ALWAYS been confident in everything I did or was about, but the "hair thing" took away so much from me---a cause that was only "IN MY HEAD" and not ON IT. These guys are correct, women love it....maybe they see the real you. This site is wonderful and the guys here are the same...full of excellent knowledge and support. Welcome and be happy. I really am.

Buzzed for 5 days now.
Family and friends are happy with what I did. Seems They all knew this day would come that I would buzz/shave it off. Only my mother was in a bit off a shock, I did not tell anyone about this but is getting used to it.
Redid my buzz #2 yesterday think I will go #1 saturday. Only problem I have at this time is a slight sunburn but I burn easily, so more caution needed.

Everybody liked it-tremendous support there and here. On the sun issue, at a #1, apply some sunscreen--everyday, and every time you go out--once you go to the bone---and I'm betting that won't be too long

--it's really easy.

If you took the time to sign up on these forums you can expect what we're all going to say. Go for it, or at the very least buzz it down short to get a general idea. I'll tell you now you will never know for sure if you'll look good sly unless you actually do it, even with a #1 it can be deceptive and you won't know for sure what you'll look like bald.
Good luck hope whatever decision you make makes you happy.

Hi guys, it has been a while.
I have kept it buzzed for 3 months now with my good buddy Remington at a close 0.8mm, and going to try a close shave. Getting some extra gillete shaving gel, Mach 3 razor and some moisturising oil after the shave. I got a long weekend coming ahead and really want to try it.
I have a very thin skin some tips before actually go fully sly?

Take a long hot shower it will make the stubble come off easier, take your time don't use too much pressure. If you want the "smooth" feeling you have to go against the grain, otherwise for a first time shaver Id recommend going with the grain to avoid irritation until your scalp adjusts.
