Blue Screen of Death, Wi Fi and Laptops
« on: January 25, 2010, 03:19:29 PM »
I am wondering if some of our sly geeks can help me!

I currently use a laptop and don't have a online access at home.  I will eventually in a few months.  So I go to wi fi hotspots like Starbucks and the library.

Anyway, I live near the city limits of Seattle, so I can got to the Seattle Public Library system and use their wi fi with no problem.  But since I live near the city limits, the suburban King County Library system is also quite close.  So when I have been using the King County Library wi fi, I seem to get the dreaded "Blue Screen of Death".  In fact, just before coming to the Starbucks that I am at, I tried TWICE to get onto Windows, and got the Blue Screen.  It has been over a month and I was at another King County Library branch and actually got on the internet and while just browsing, I had gotten the Blue Screen TWICE.

So my question, can some wi fi systems cause that to happen?  I have only had problems in the King County Library system?  I would love to see what you think?

It's most likely a case of a bad driver for your wifi card.  Do you have an internal or external card?  My suggestion would be to update the driver.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

It has to be internal as I don't have to plug anything in.  But why would it only happen with this particular wi fi system?

Ah, the dreaded BSOD! I agree with Tyler that it is, more likely than not, a driver issue. Of course any additional info may change my opinion. :) How old is your laptop? Many of the older (2-4 years) Intel wireless adapters are not compatible with many of the newer access points. @c3

You can download new drivers at http://support.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/

Tis better to have a bald head than no head at all.
